Anyone had any luck insuring an S or Wedge (350i etc..) under 25? I'm 23 and considering buying myself one next year.

Before getting my last car I looked at a V8 wedge and the insurance quotes were laughable, but they were quite happy to insure me (relatively cheaply) on a similarly powerful/quick 944 S2. Stupidly, the quote for my dad's artheritic 1972 1600M was exactly the same!!

Anyone had better luck than me?

I bought my 350i at 24, and it cost about £700 with A plan for unlimted milage ( I was even used it as my everyday car, to start with..... )
That was a long time ago.....
Good luck and shop around.

Hi guys. Seems there is hope

Strange that someone had sucess with Lancaster - I got quoted £3000 or something stupid with them for an S I think. What was more stupid was my dads 1600cc M-series - slower than any car I've ever owned - was also rated at the same premium!! Conversely, my Porsche 924S was £700 FC and so was a 170mph 968 club sport (not that I could afford one....)!!

The question is, do I want one?

Hmm, the lowest quote I've got for a 23 year old with 2 years NCB living in relatively low risk Chelmsford is £1,500 a year fully comp or £730 TPFT. That was only 5000 miles a year though.

That quote was virtually identical for an S3 or 350i.

wavey

Managed just under a grand in my first year aged 23 which dropped to about a third of that the following year after changing companies, still under 25.

Takes a lot of searching around but good deals can be had.

ETA - Have you tried Hagerty?

I had a 3000M Turbo when I was 21/22?..insurance for that was about £780 from MSM...
Got a Chimaera at 24 and it was about the same - Limited mileage of 5000, no garage etc.. I think hagerty want it to be in a garage or at least in a car port...i dont think MSM require ltd mileage

lovely looking car in your profile. Since leaving the TVR fold I haven't seen as many pictures of the Tusc2 as I would have liked. Got any more? that colour is superb!

And now - a quick plug

As I was debating the insurance cost, on DougC's suggestion I tried Haggerty - I was quoted £420 a year FC (on 5000 miles) for a garaged S3 (as it happens an Excel, 350i or 944 S2 was about the same) - thats OVER ONE THOUSAND POUNDS CHEAPER than my best quote from a 'high street' firm. Jesus!

Interestingly, they're the only insurer I've ever spoken to who asked whether I'd owned a RWD sportscar before, which seems like a sensible indication of risk compared to a 40 year old mid life crisis stepping into a grifith straight out of his fiesta....

The slight downside to that is the car has to be garaged whenever its not in use between certain times, but they'll do it ungaraged on the drive for about £800 - still much better than anyone else and not far off what I'm paying for my 'sensible' MG saloon at the moment.

So, the way I see it, thats another £1000 on my TVR budget
