Morning folks, I'm currently in TVR heaven and TVR hellI've just decatted my 2000 Tuscan which has added more than enough BHP to it's already monster engine and although it now sounds awsome under power the poping and banging on overrun is just plain mental. I've had the ECU checked and reprogrammed no faults there all sensors are correct but still sounds like sunday in the gaza strip.
If someone can shed light I would be well happy.

Yeah I was thinking much the same, you've had a decat to make it louder and are you now saying its too loud?

Matt.

Decatting is hardly likely to add any power at all - the standard cats are extremely high flow items. Certainly the AJP's don't show any noticeable difference. Have you heard a decatted Cerbera? They sound like you describe. If you don't like it, put the cats back in, or why did you take them out!?

Popping on overrun generally indicates an air leak in the exhaust. Since you've just had work done on the exhaust, that would be the first thing to check for.

popping and cracking on overrun when decatted is what is to be expected.

I don't think it's added bhp as much at let loose what was hidden in the motor, when the cats were removed all the internals were melted into a gloop on the bottom. I was expecting more noise and under power its great it's the amount of detonation in the pipe thats all a bit to much, it's as if it carries on fueling a split second longer than it should and it all happens between 2800 &2100rpm. It's worse that a full blown cossie with anti-lag. My local dealer is now checking whether its had the upgraded chip in the ecu or maybe the butterflies are all closing at the same time. I will get it sorted it's just a matter of investigating all possibilities.

hehe, might wait until after my first MOT in June, although I think "probably" my current sleeved rear cans are loud enough
