Just had a phone call from a company called Vehicle Match Services claiming they had located several buyers in my area that want to view my Chimaera. (selling the 4.0 litre one now the stone chips have been done).

It all sounded wonderful (as is always the case) until the registration fee of £89.99 was mentioned. They guaranteed to sell the car within a week for the full asking price (yeah right) and would then refund the registration fee. At that point i backed out and told them i would contact them if i needed to increase my advertising.

Has anybody heard of them or indeed used them in the past? I won't touch them with a bargepole unless any of you fellow PHers can convince me otherwise.

I've always told companies like these that if your that confident you can sell it in a week, you do that and I will give you twice your fee when sold

If there were several buyers in your area, don't you think they'd have given you a ring by now, and not gone through some stupid agency where they too have to pay a fee?

Give me an 'S', give me a 'C', etc, etc......

I've had a couple of these complanies recently, due to my Chimaera being in Autotrader. When I asked the last one why anyone would travel from GB to NI to see a Chimaera when they are much more plentiful there, she just repeated some prepared garbage about having a list of interested buyers in my area - my a*se!

I've also just had this in an e-mail:

Hello Seller,
My name is Mark Luthor I am interested in your 1994 TVR CHIMAERA 4.0 2dr Convertible,Also am okay with the stated price of £*,***.I am willing to make payment via certified Uk Check/Bank Draft drawn from a Uk bank which will clear in your bank before the shipment. I hope the mileage and the body is in good condition. Please let me know if it is still up for sale. Also i will want you to get back to me with some more pictures.
Cheers
Mark

Anyone had anything similar?

Presumably another scam?

Yes its a scam

to be honest, if someone wants your car they will ring you and come and view it, not email you saying theyll pay you from a uk verified bank account lol

Have been contacted in both of the above ways when selling a car. I agree with all that's been said about the bunch offering to sell it for a one off fee. I was trying to sell a 1973 Fiat 500 at the time and I asked them how many buyers they had and they told me they weren't at liberty to disclose that. I said that they didn't have any and that they were liars and the bloke on the other end flew off the handle immediately. Very professional!! The other scam originates from Nigeria according to a friend of mine who works for customs. It's known as a Nigerian 418 or something like that and needless to say it IS a scam. He explained to me roughly how it works if anyone wants to know!

I did assume it was a scam, but I'd half a mind to call his bluff by replying and suggesting he ring me to discuss and tell me what other pictures he wanted etc (there are 9 in the ad already FFS) - but I suppose that would just be a waste of my time in typing the e-mail.

When selling my old Range Rover I had the joker e-mailing me asking for more pictures.
I sent them a picture of a Police Range Rover.
They stopped e-mailing after that...
