BLACKPOOL council chief has raised the prospect of a management buy-out at the town's troubled sports car-maker, TVR.

Alan Cavill, head of corporate policy at Blackpool Council, said the possibility of a management buy-out has not been ruled-out. He was speaking ahead of talks today between unions, town hall bosses and management of the car-maker.

"We've not ruled out the possibility of a management buy-out of the company, but we have to make sure everything is in place before we can start the process," he said.

err ... wot the hell has the local council got to do with a management buyout? Whether or not it is was going on, they would be just as much bystanders to the process as us. The man's talking out of his arse.

Surely the management buy out would be by the current NS team. And they already know how badly they have managed it!!!

You've gotta laugh or cry at the whole situation - if we're lucky, and I mean "lucky", there'll be something left at the end of all this that may still vaguely resemble TVR.
tumbleweed picture the little weed as all the management-plans(!), stories, comments, opinions, etc

Seconded. Having read the article, it sounds as if Mr Cavill has already appointed himself MD.

Perhaps I have missed something but my understanding is that NS is not selling TVR , just moving to new location. Management buy-outs are usually from the administrators or the current owner. Does someone know something we dont

The "buy out" is for Blackpool Automotives not TVR.

Unions like politicians have alway got to be seen doing something for the people involved. The workforce and their families.

At the end of the day, TVR is a buiness and the owner is going to maximise his return by moving to cut his costs, if a buy out was viable, by people with a pasion for TVR's heritage then great but this will come at a cost and again the owner will surly want at least his money paid out back and then some???? I'm very sure for the right price it could be bought over, the question is whats the company worth in terms of book value and what is any one prepaired to pay for it?

Profit and loss accounts will be lodged with companies house, so that bits easy, so now it's down to what is someone prepaired to buy it for?

I'm sorry, but i don't agree with you if you think the current situation is down to the workforce. The workforce are only as good as the management that leads them! I think over the past year or so the workforce have been shown to be loyal to TVR, passionate about the cars they build, and have put up with a lot of shit!

i think you will find its the workforce thats had there arses slapped ,and the owners
dont tarnish all the workforce!with the same brush,YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE A VERY NARROW MINDED INDIVIDUAL
to think that of all the workforce
Are you from the KREMLIN ERA.
I think thats a bit unfair considering the current situation

The landlord bit I got from reading pistonheads, the rest from my own experience having a business in England.

I have no inside information unlike 99.9% of the pistonheaders.

Oh and the workforce bit was aimed at ENGLAND not just TVR. Why has TVR got a bad name for reliability has it been the management for the past 30 odd years scratchchin. I bought a TVR for one purpose, its punch for pettence, I was never deluded into thinking it was solidly built unlike some on here, when it goes wrong I put it right I don't bleet like a lamb on here
(the other reason TVR has a bad reliability name ITS BLEETING OWNERS who were kidded into thinking they bought a reliable Ford)

I hope some of you are happy now getting on here giving TVR a good old laraping, have you got what you wanted..

If you have the time to go through the archives you will find who you all are..

Of course this is only my opinion

Mark, the bloke who bought a TVR and has loved every minuite of it..

There is nothing to buy out, what's needed is someone prepared to put the required investment together and trade from somewhere else in the area, as the trained workforce are already insitu .
The amount of criticism levelled at the workforce in my opinion, is totally unjust, the superior build quality is evident in all the new cars.
Cash or should I say a lack of it is why the company is in the current crisis, if I had the funds I would certainly have upgraded to a Tuscan convertibe, many others have orders for new cars which would have been delivered earlier, if funds had been provided to continue with the manufacture.
Either NS hasn't the funds readily available to give the company the cash injection required, or could also be surrounded by advisors restraining the purse strings.
If you look at the new Marcos, it is TVR staring back, models only need a small facelift or tweak here and there to allow the cars to be made locally once again without buying someone out.
Or maybe Nick will just pass the company onto the Blackpool council into some sort of trust for the people, and accept he's just made a bad business decision this time.

best regards,

James Sim.

You know, Im actually going to agree with you about something. I bought both my TVRs and have (despite the odd lapsed moment) loathed every minute of owning them and I love slipping into the Sagaris and putting my hands on the wheel. I love walking away from her and turning back to have another look at that dropping, dragon's neck of the front 3/4 view and grinning that she is mine.

So not touching your comments about the workforce though, yer on yer own there!

Unreliable - I remember unreliable - that was when I started driving 35 odd years back. That was when you never went anywhere without a full tool kit, tow-rope, plugs, dizzy, rotor arm etc. When getting back home was not a guaranteed event. Looking in the rear view mirror and seeing half your sockets flying across the road as they dropped through the hole in the rotten spare wheel well.

TVRs have character! Only had my Chim 16 days (and 8hrs 55 mins as I type this), I've done over 1000 miles in sun, rain, monsoon - its dry inside, has never missed a beat and has exceeded my hopes and expectations. I do expect it to break - anything mechanical will eventually - when it does I'll get it fixed, if it breaks the same again, it won't be the car's fault (probably). It's an old addage, treat a car well and it will treat you well, treat it rough.... If you want ultra-reliable, worry-free motoring, go buy a Toyota.

Come on people, we're talking hand built simple engineering - just love your beasts
