TVR London Rally Update two (Sat 11th Nov)
Discussion
Well, what a week. This time last week you hadn’t heard of me, now you wish you still hadn’t .
Before I go into an update, I know that we all share great sorrow at the news of the factory layoffs. This is particularly devastating as we approach Christmas. Our thoughts are with the workers and their families at this difficult time.
This Rally is about the workers. An opportunity for us to express our thanks for the dedication and skill they have shown in building the cars that give us so much pleasure. Despite the recent bad news, we are still expecting around 100 workers to be coming down from Blackpool to London, and joining in the parade with us in our cars.
Lets get the World Record for them!
The current count is 167 - chase up your mates to get them involved.
Thanks to KirstyM, who has now secured a great deal on the coaches for the workers.
Thanks to the Transport & General Workers Union, who have met our request for help with a generous donation towards the cost of the transport.
V8cerbera is doing a sterling job managing the design and production of the shirts.
The Moosehunter has agreed to produce some event stickers
We have had discussions with the exec of TVR requesting permission to use the logo outline - for this event only. We expect to hear back from them on Monday
Thanks to Jeremy Blandford, Chairman of the TVR CC for providing us with publicity and support on their web site.
Excellent hard work from lots of people in looking for an after parade venue for refreshments, particularly Amazon and SimBad. They have several options at the moment, and are still looking at others. We will post details once we have final confirmation, probably by the end of next week..
There are convoys to London arranged from all four corners of the country, please join one of them for your drive in – you will have great fun. Could i ask someone from each convoy (who has access to a PC and printer) to elect themselves as a contact point, and drop me a pm with your contact details - this will be helpful in producing and distributing maps when the time comes.
Our parade route has been approved by the Met Police, and will be published a couple of days before the event, as will the meet point. We will drive a circular route, taking in a few of London’s famous tourist landmarks, and passing Downing Street where we expect to be presenting the petition.
The petition wording has been agreed, and is posted at www.PetitionOnline.com/HelpTVR/pet get your signatures on there, and spread the word.
We have been in contact with the offices of Mrs Joan Humble MP, who has agreed to help with the petition. If, for whatever reason, we are not able to deliver it to Downing Street, Mrs Humble will personally present it to the House of Commons.
Our registration with Guinness World Records has been acknowledged, but it is likely that our Record will not be confirmed until a couple of weeks after the event.
We have had no response yet from Top Gear.
Actions for next week include:
Publicise and spread the word about the petition
Confirm numbers of workers travelling, and book and pay for coaches
Finalise Press release and issue
Continue discussion with TVR exec regarding use of the logo
Continue to seek donations from TVR-related businesses
Set up a method for making donations to the transport and refreshments fund
Confirm venue for after-parade refreshments
Firm up meeting point arrangements with the Police
Contact Richard Hammond, to give him an opportunity to support this event.
As always, your ideas, suggestions, observations and comments are most welcome. Please keep them coming.
Hopefully I’ll see some of you at Virginia Water tomorrow, do say hello
Cheers
David

Is there any value in having a conference call number set-up that Regional contacts can dial in to at certain times of the day to get updates / share info etc to pass onto their people as we converge from the regions. I was thinking primarily about travel updates in and around London. I can organise this if you think its a good idea.

Hopefully this will help everyone to meet up and get there and back.

David, Have you got marshalls sorted out for car parking at the various stops in London....It's going to be a lot of cars...Hi Vis Jackets etc.
Hi Keith, thanks for raising question.
We are still confirming the official meet up point. If it is in central London, then the Police will be on hand to deal with it.
If not, it will be in a proper car park, which has been made available for us.
Either way, i am not expecting there to be more than one stop off in Central London (and may be not even that) but your question is very valid.
Do you happen to have any Hi Viz vets?
cheers,
David

Hi Jon,
great suggestion, thanks for this. We are still trying to maintain information on here. We will have confirmed the actual meeting points etc by Monday of next week (might need to go and do a recce next Sunday to gauge traffic etc). This would give everybody six days notice, which will hopefully be sufficient. Once we have done that, then we will update the main (ITS ON!!) thread, which people can access. I will also set up an email group for those who have volunteered to act as convoy contact points, to ensure that we are all coordinated - but probably not until next week.
If you feel there is a pressing need to do something sooner, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Cheers
David
I've posted this on the M1 convoy thread also, but;
The M1 is closed overnight on Saturday 25th, from 9pm on Saturday until 9am Sunday 26th to allow the demolition of a bridge in the J10 road works.
There is likely to be severe traffic disruption in the area, and if the re-opening is delayed, anyone coming from the North should have a fall-back route.
(You should note that some genius decided to have major road works on the A1 around Hatfield at the same time!)

There's a guy on Ebay selling TVR flags 60 inches by 35 inches.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl
I mailed him about instant payment and he said:
Hi.A fair price for a TVR flag would be £16.95 including p&p. If interested, you can send a direct paypal payment to me at ebay@kickoffshop.com, or I can send a paypal invoice if you advise your paypal email address. Best Regards. Graham. nwautobanners
I've bought one to go with my Union jack flag

I have set up a conference call number and PIN for us to use on Sunday 26th. Suggest I don't give it out on here but let you communicate it when you have all the details to send out to the regional contacts. Suggest we use it on the hour every hour (say from 8am / 9am etc ) until the planned meeting time for info sharing / new traffic issues etc.
