Has anyone tried this? The tin says its suitable for canvas, and Steve Heaths Wdge book says its good to use. I've put two heavy coats on so far, drenching the fabric as the tin recommends, but I'm still showing no signs of being properly waterproofed (i.e. no beading, just instant wetting).

More coats? Or a change of substance?

Just keep applying it. Mine took about eight coats, but it only takes half an hour a go to do. My roof went from water dripping in to 100% waterproof ..... so it definitely works.

Thomsons works brilliantly. It has been tested a few times over the winter, and the car has so far remained dry. I have a wash'n'wax'n'roofseal afternoon planned for Saturday (ahead of Pie&Wye) Dunno what you mean about the smell, though

Phil, just as a by the by.
DON'T forget to get any excess of ALL rubber seals, otherwise they will go sticky.
A light wipe with White spirit will suffice, or even better a light spray with a silicon based rubber lubricant.

Two coats, perfectly waterproof, no smell. Maybe someone sneaked in and pooped....

Mine have done this - I cleaned it off the windscreen and body work but forgot the rubber seals. Will this harm the rubber in any way?

Hi Rick, forgot to do my seals to start with.
Had trouble getting the roof to part.
Sprayed with lube, been OK since.
Mine are not sticky anymore, so I don't think there is any long lasting effect.
I would suggest that you do it as soon as you can.
Hope this helps.
