right time to buy a tvr?
Discussion
I think you could wait forever for certainty over the companies future (I don't think there has ever been any certainty where TVR is concerned). There are many independents out there who can take care of servicing/parts so I don't think you need concern yourself on that front so long as you appreciate that the car WILL need lots of TLC and will probably let you down from time to time. These are highly tuned sports cars after all.
If you're looking for a bargain I really think now is the time as you can really take advantage of peoples unease about the factory situation, safe in the knowledge that it will probably have very little effect on the second-hand owners experience.
all IMO of course

Why wait until the company's future is certain, unless you are buying new.
If you want to buy a used TVR then now is the time because these wonderfull TVRs may become sort after,
because they are tremendous cars to own.

Totally agree.I'd go for buying one now,due to the fact that TVR's future looks uncertain but if the worst does happen then the "Brit" built TVR's,their prices are going to go up and that's from Grantura onwards,M-series seem to be holding their prices well and in some cases starting to rise slowly depending on the model. Some nicely priced cars on e-bay but should??? the company cease building cars in the UK then I personally think that the prices of used TVR's is set to rise. Plenty of specialist's out there who can keep your car on the road and ticking along just nicely. Plenty spares available for pre- M,M series and wedges and do believe Chim/Griff spares are also readily available.
Get it bought. The future of TVR has sod all to do with Chims/Griffs/Cerberas and Tuscs that are already used and are a few years old, IMO.
They are what they are and are as cheap as they are now because of what has already happened to TVR.
All of the above cars are guaranteed to be sought after for many years to come.
DO IT.

For a budget of 20k - a mint 2001 Tuscan with a late engine rebuild are looking fantastic buys at the moment. Very few bad words are been said about the later Speed 6 engines, prices of servicing them are getting a lot lower as the independants become more confident and the common issues with fixing clutches and dashboards seem to have gone away.
At them moment we have a silly situation where mint late 99+ Griff's (limited supply) are worth more than 2000/01 Tuscans (over supply). As more people gain confidence that Tuscan won't cost an arm and a leg to run then the supply of them may dry up, firming up values.

I've been after a TVR for a while. Now it looks like I can finally afford one (probably a Cerb/Tuscan).
The question is... is it the right time to buy one?! Prices seem low as it's winter, but would I be better off waiting till the company's future is a bit more certain?

I bloody hope it's the right time to buy one as I bought my Tuscan 2 a month ago! However I am also clearly a nutter. Two TVRs from new in less than 2 years.
It is a very worrying time at the moment with a record number of dealers going under or looking elsewhere for sales. I take some comfort though in that there are a large number of excellent specialists who can look after the car even if there were no TVR dealers. Some might argue they'd actually do a better job too. My main concern is the 3 year warranty. So long as TVR stay in business that will be honoured as it was without question during my 18 months of Sagaris ownership.
