Cant arm alarm without siren going off

For some reason I cant arm my Meta 99/36T alarm without the siren going off straightaway. I have checked all switches etc and nothing is obvious. I recently came back from holiday to a flat battery. I was wondering if this caused a problem. Do they have a battery backup which could have gone flat also. I have tried disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to reset it but no difference. Any thoughts would be a great help. ant leave the car anywhere otherwise.

My understanding is that the alarm will sound if the car's battery goes flat - hence your problem. I assume that the led on the dash is flashing normally - i.e. the alarm is setting / disarming ok.
I'd try removing the siren (and wrap it in a blanket or two to shut the thing up if it still sounds), then charge your car's battery fully. Refit the siren and keep your fingers crossed...you may need a new siren if it's internal batts have been flattened.
Others might have better suggestions.

The car battery is fully charged now as I have bought an optimate. Isnt the barrety backup rechargable then? The immobiliser is also cutting in as normal after 20 seconds.

Had the same problem on mine (without any battery problems). Known fault with water getting in the siren. Needed a new siren...

Bolax. How much are they then. Can a dealer get them.

A new siren (from a dealer) is around £80 plus fitting. I've had two in the last year , the second one failed 6 months and two weeks after fitting - guess what? TVR only offer a 6 month warantee on spares!
TVR acknowledge that water in the works is a known problem with sirens, but if yours was the result of a flat battery I wonder whether it will it need a new siren.

Right, I shall remove the siren and investigate I think. Cant teh back up batterys be replaced.

A friend has had this problem. What he found on his griff, was that on the door sills there is the sensor to detect the doors opening and closing. These are just basic push switches. On the door itself there is a small spacer glued on, which the push switch touches when the door is closed. This spacer on one of his doors had falen off, so when the alarm was set it assumed one of the doors were still open. Once this spacer was reatached the problems went away.

Had a similar problem with my 308 GT4 which was traced to one of the sensors 'thinking' that the bonnet was open.

Once the sensor was re-aligned it was fine again.

Following an investigation by me the siren has now packed up altogether, so the first thoughts were correct. Thats 80 quid for me to spend then. Cheers boys. At least I can lock the car now.

When you (or the dealer) replace the siren, fit it so it faces backwards (might help to keep the water out!), that's what my dealer did...known problem (you can fix some black insulating tape over the yellow label that will be visible if you want to make it look better)
