Hi - I have a Chimaera 4.0 1996 - colour pearl red. The passenger side is scratch from one end to the other and I want the whole car resprayed but nobody can match the colour. I have been quoted by two workshops / body repairs with good reputations and they won't guarantee to match the colour because they say it has been customised. Any ideas most appreciated??

Is red pearl, or rosso pearl which is a colour that fades & cannot be matched as far as I know.

If so, your best bet is get another red you like & get the whole thing done if you can.

Its a shame to have to respray the whole car for slightly damaged door panel, but I know several people who have had to do the same.

If you need a full respray then go for Red Glow pearl, according to Gerbil (TVR paint guru) It is a little richer and less likely to fade. That’s the colour I will choose when I get mine resprayed. OH yes

This is a picture of a fellow PH's car that I used to own. It was originally a rosso pearl colour which was a bit faded and stone chipped to buggery. I had it resprayed in an alternative rosso pearl colour which I found on the PPG web site (Paint code even matched the original). The main difference was rather than having the silver base coat with the coloured laquer(sp?) it has a gold / red base coat with a coloured laquer. It is an absolute bitch of a job to put on. In fact it was done four times before each panel looked the same colour. Looks lovely in the sun shine. Photo doesn't do it justice really, but gives you an idea what can be done.

I bloody miss that car. I offered to buy it back off the new owner but he wasn't having any of it.cry

Contact the factory. I've just had a similar matching problem with my Olympic Blue Griff but this was easily resolved after the chap painting my car contacted the factory - apparently mine was a one off special but the factory paint man (is that Gerbil?) knew the exact mix.

If they're painting the whole car, what have they got to match it to ?

There's nothing left.
