TVR could remain in Britain

Will takeover talks keep the company here?

TVR's Blackpool factory
TVR's Blackpool factory
Is TVR about to be taken over?

Amid stories of the company's move of its production facilities to foreign shores comes a rumour that former workers at Jensen Motors, which sadly collapsed in 2002 before it could sell any of its £40,000 SV-8s, have bought the rights to the Speed Six-powered product line as well as all the cars currently stalled in production.

According to one local news outlet (see link below), the North West Development Agency is in talks with TVR and a buyer, as yet unnamed.

A meeting apparently took place this week somewhere in the south of England between the interested parties, according to the local TGWU convenor, and negotiations remain in progress. An announcement is expected within the week.

Keep your fingers crossed: maybe TVR will remain British after all.

I hope some one isnt making a realy bad joke, if this were and hope fully happen i would make a lot of peoples chrismas come true, and for the ex workers from the factory well i hope they would be taken back on as it them that knows what it takes to make a car with pashion, pride and the slight sence that it wants to kill you if you start driving it like borng euro box...
Please make it happen, can we start another pertition to help encouage a buy out bounce

More than fingers crossed for all who it may consern.

bounce Oh, please let this be true?! However:

"Jensen Motors, a British car manufacturer, began life in 1934 as a small coach building firm in Birmingham. They went on to build exclusive customised bodies for cars. They ceased trading in May 1976, were revived in 2001 but folded a year later."

Not the greatest 'public' recent track-record for a management team? Anyone know much about them or their background?

hopefully a joint effort of knowledge from TVR and involved parties will involve careful selection of a effective, efficient managment team who will be able to learn from TVR's past mistakes in people management and improve the quality of the cars produced!

I really hope this happens - it could just be what is needed to keep the factory going... Fingers crossed that this isn't just another story from the Smolensky BS machine.

Also remember that for any buy out to work they need to have customers. It seems to be lack of customers that contributed to getting TVR into this state in the first place. No one in their right mind would just take everyone back on and go back to where they were before, as that has been shown not to work.

If anything is announced soon, it will be some time before any sort of normality returns.

If there is any truth in this, I hope it's someone with really deep pockets who is prepared to invest the necessary readies to sort the problems out and take the company forwards, or otherwise even if a takeover does happen I can't see things improving much on limited funds.

I'm just slightly scared about this as lots of people seem to want to play at sportscar manufacturing but use most of their funds actually acquiring a company...so they've got sod all left to play with when they find themselves in the chairman's seat.

Too much detail to be a rumour.
Looks promising - if not Jensen then at least
discussions are taking place. Watch the big
hitters enter the ring at the last moment.

Why on earth are they rumoured to be getting involved with the Speed Six powerplant. Sure, potentially its a great engine, but for me its the primary problem with the car, and the reason I would not part with a large sum of money.
LS6 power, economy (relatively), ultra reliable, can sound fantastic, lightweight (relatively), what more is there to say.
Surely any potential investors priority will to be stopping money leaking out of the company, or with the present warranty claims, flooding ouf! OK the new purchaser does not have those liabilities, but they soon will have if they continue to supply an unrelaible product.

All a bit irrelevant really, TVR or any small volume manufacturer has not got a chance. You need big capitol for investmemnt, and with the low production runs, the capitol is not generated. The only way TVR could survive, is to make an iconic timeless product (a bit like Morgan), and not have to continually invest large sums in new (underdeveloped) models, therefore retaining profits, strengthening the company for future woes, and to attract investment.

Pity, but its the real world. Besides, the current administration (government and cronies) are probably only too glad to see the likes of TVR dissappear. Afterall, they represent rebellious individuality....can`t be having any of that, eh?

Can't see any good news here. A failed car company being bought by a total disaster of a failed car company. Frying pans and fires, really.

Hopefully, Barnet's demise is a matter of rightdowns and accounting but that news is not exactly brilliant.

If this has all been a smoke screen by NS to find a trade buyer then fine, but it needs to be something with very deep pockets as the current model is non viable.

You either buy this and go large or pick up what's left for £1 and bumble along as another low vol manufacturer a la Noble and Marcos.

Personally, I was looking forward to a Ricardo engined aluminium bodied super car

True but people also learn by their mistakes and I doubt there is any failed businessman who hasn't realised what they did wrong and know now how to put it right.

Your not keeping up , the Speed 6 issues seem to be behind it, the latest problems seem to be 5 litre Rover V8's snapping cranks every few thousand miles.

Now we have a story that makes sense - let us hope and pray. Mind you all us PH people may have to put our money where our mouths have been and actually buy these new cars from Jensen/TVR Motors Ltd and they need to make a 30,000 pound car - a v8 to compliment the other cars - brilliant news!
