Having searched through the threads about keepeing the old battery topped up during periods of inactivity, someone told of their basic charger on a timer idea (coming on for a couple of hours a day if necessary).

I've been looking for one that would charge through the cigarette lighter for convenience and found this.

www.toolsbypost.com/product.php?id=3288&category=

It continuously provides 12v at up to 800mA, although it is really designed to save clocks and ECU settings while the battery is disconnected. At present I can't see much of a difference from regular trickle chargers.
Can anybody see any reason why the above wouldn't work the same as one of these below..

I don't see why not at the mo, but any opinions would be gratefully received.

I have been using the Accumate for three years now, works perfect. I use the cigarettelighter plug
to charge, easy and no need to fit a special charge plug.

Taken from their website:

The AccuMate is suitable for all 6 and 12V lead acid batteries from 4Ah to 75Ah, making it perfect for owners of older vehicles which are not used on a daily basis.

Thanks for your replies chaps. Accumates are indeed the mutt's nuts, but I'm more inclined to go with one of the ones I listed with a timer really - (keep some dosh back towards proper upgrades -dash...brakes...cam.. etc).

The question really is, in comparing the trickle chargers, does the "memory saver" appear to do the job as the other two?????????

Halford's do a conditioner for £17 that does exactly what the more expensive units do. I used it on my Chimaera and now on my Cerb. It does the business. It has crocodile clips but I made an extension to plug into cigarette lighter socket.

I'd agree with the Halfrauds one, I bought one, and used the supplied connector to attach to the battery on the Wedge (bought him to a new battery as well, it is nearly Christmas!)

I routed it to just under the dashboard, so it's fairly easy to get at.
