Has any wise soul got an answer to my problem .I can be driving along just fine when my engine does something akin to hiccoughs ,my old motor at times feels a bit like a bucking bronco .I took it to my garage and they told me my distributer head was in really bad nick and the plugs needed changing. This was done but the problem is still there. The other thing is, it is intermitent, it can run really smoothly for quite a while and then starts up again.Has any one had a similar experience or know what may be causing it.

I don't think there is a one shot answer to this..

A good mechanic needs to look around your engine back and pust, pull and inspect it.

Yes - the dizzy cap , leads, and plugs probably not good - should have been changed at a routine service

I'd check earth leads to engine (2 or 3 of these..), battery lead on tight (starter wires) condition of all wiring on coil and dizzy
(sometimes is a long shielded wire from the dizzy to amp..)

When you find it - it will probably be really obvious.

We had a similar problem with our Chim halfway over the Swiss Alps - found out that it was a case of the HT lead hitting the hot exhaust.

Hope this helps..
