There's a few quids worth of damage here, including a TVR #55

www.dailymotion.com/video/xqxdj_wetrace

Apparently it is Knickerbrook at Oulton Park 3 or 4 years ago, part way into the first GT race but prior to any pitstops the heavens opened torrential rain thunder lightning the lot, all the cars were still on slicks and had not had time to get back to the pits to change tyres so little or no control really with an approach speed of about 140Mph.

Was reckoned at the time to be one of the most expensive crashes in british racing with millions of pounds worth of damage

I was in the crowd watching and this happened 20 metres away from me. That marshall had a lucky escape.

has been posted here before but this from one of the marshals in the Vid
What the footage doesn't show is that the first Saleen had slid to a stop with an engine fire. I had put the fire out when the second saleen hit it. Seeing the saleen careering down towards his team mate and knowing there is nothing you can do about the inevitable is a horrible feeling. After the impact nathan was slumped over the wheel not moving and at this point, as nothing was in view coming over hill top I went out to try to get to the driver. You can see me trying to get the door open without any luck. The microphone on the TV camera picks up the sound of the crowd but at the time we could not hear any thing except rain. Rick Bates was shouting to us from the box on the inside and the I.O. was blowing a whistle but we could not hear it. Even the microphone doesn't pick it up. When I saw the Viper I ran for safety and hadn't even realised that Steve had followed me out. If you look at the footage you can see that Steve had fell over as he came through the gap in the armco. If he had not fallen he would have been either with me or back behind the armco. As it is, I was hit on the heel of my boot by the viper so I count myself as very lucky to get away so lightly.

With hindsight I may have done things differently, but as we all know its easy to say that. Did I learn from it? You bet I did!
Reckon the end of lap 1 of the 1973 British Grand Prix might equal it - some young gun called Jody Sheckter spun a McLaren M23 in front of the pack at woodcaote. Wiped out , amongs others - th enetire (3 car) Surtees Team plus a lot of others. Red flagged - broken leg for Andrea de Adamich - and it was dry!!
