I'm looking at buying a cerbera, but I'm a bit concerned about servicing and insurance.

What should I budget for servicing if I'm buying a 1999 35000miles cerb,
and budget for ins if I'm 30, with 2 yrs no claims, 8000miles per year.

many thanks

Dan

Hi

You may be better off posting this on the cerbera threads. I have just bought one (pick it up saturday!! cant wait), so cant speak from experience, but if you look at threads there people reckon at budgeting 2-3k pa on maintenance and repairs.

As for insurance I found Haggerty best (www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/), but its a special second car policy. Other than that try confused.com and moneysupermarket.com for quoutes, but A Plan who advertise on here came up better for me - Best shop around!

And good luck, there isnt much else short of £100k that would match it for pace, and certainly none for curb appeal!!

Hi most of the guys say 3K for the year, but it all depends on your car. If you get a good one then less than 2K. If you get one that needs alot of attention and you get the garage to sort it, then it could be 5K who knows its a lottery. Some guys do a year on 1500 for servicing, but unless you have 3K a year to possibly wave good bye to think again.

For an indication, my cheapest quote for the Cerb was ~ £1200 irked.

35, 12k miles a year, 2 years ncb, previously company car with no claims. Obligatory old fart relative added to the policy to reduce it further. Also includes TVRCC 10% discount. With A-Plan. They said it should be a lot cheaper once I got a year's ownership under my belt.

Thanks guys, may have to rethink things... really don't want a vx220 over a cerb, but the servicing/ins is so much more affordable. Are all the TVR's similar, or is there something more affordable? Purchase price isnt really the issue for me, it's the ongoing maintenance

From experiences of mates, the cerbs do seem to be a bit more pricey to run than chims or griffs (or wedges or S series for that matter).

Saying that, I have spent about £4k on servicing & repairs for my Chim over the last 12 months.
