i have just been quoted by an independant TVR garage £52 for an MOT test, i thought they were only £36ish.
seems very steep to me, is there some special way to test a TVR????

just checked and it is supposed to be £39.25

Standard MOT test required so Standard MOT price applies.

Correct price = £39.25 - had mine done just a couple of weeks ago.

If you've got a Limited Slip Differential - TELL THEM
- damage can be caused to it on a rolling road - they'll need to test the brakes by other means e.g. Decellerometer (excuse spelling) or Technometer (ditto)

Also I had to take mine to a garage with an inspection pit - the local garage said they couldn't get them on the ramp.

But good luck - hope it passes

well, its just been serviced and then a week later 5th gear went, so that is being done under warranty, so as mot due end of the month, thought i would get the tvr garage (not dealer) to mot it, kinda saves me being without car.
will be discussing why they want to charge £52.

jodypress, your car looks superb but can you slow it down in the slideshow? It moves too fast!

if its an independant that'll be about right if they don't have their own MT test facilities .. I charge about that - it's made up of the test fee plus the time required to take the car there and back .. plus don't forget it's much better to py this and have your car tested at a TVR friendly place than take it just anywgere and have it fail on little TVR foibles .. eg TVR cut holes in the steering rack rubbers to stop them bursting as you wind the lock quickly left to right .. MOT fail at Joe Bloggs, pass at TVR friendly garage. There's lots f stuff like that .. some MOT centres even fail the shine-through rear number plates. My advice is pay the 52 pounds safe inthe knwledge your independant is saving you money in real terms.Joolz

But Fernhurst are an MOT station, so they're able to just charge the test fee. And they're TVR friendly to boot, obviously! (My ex Cerbera passed perfectly a couple of weeks ago).

The other trick is to go to a dodgy local MOT centre during a world cup match ...

Paid £20 for mine in Southend, they do a lot of TVR's as they are located right next to a well known TVR bodywork repair shop.Passed no probs although they did point out a few things that I might like to look at but werent MOT failures.

ok spoke to my garage and he says that they do a tvr pre-mot inspection for £29 and then take the car to their mot tester and that is £25. i have explained that the car was serviced, only 2 weeks ago, so don't see any issues. he said mot is not a profitable thing for them. i am getting increasingly poor service from this independent (missed car needing a new steering rack, after specifically asking them to check front end suspension and steering after towing incident)
i would love to take it to fernhurst again and will be for all future servicing but it is too far for just an mot for me.

Does anyone know if David batty will do MOT's?

Just want to organise myself before i ring him.

He does, and he's doing mine on Friday - for the standard fee.
I booked mine back in March but I believe you will need at least 2 weeks notice.

Paul (Wolosp) - There's more than 1 type of diff been fitted to the Chimaera over the years and according to the bible they're all Limited Slip.

Find a suitable large car park devoid of other vehicles. Apply full lock.Engage 1st gear. Depress accelerator until about 4000rpm. Dump the clutch. If donut is the result, you have lsd

Dave doesn't actually do MoTs himself, he takes the cars down to a TVR-friendly testing station round the corner from him. But the net result is the same as if he did do his own MoT tests.

Most standard brake testers will work for a single axel LSD, as long as both wheels turn at about the same rate (i.e. the free wheel is turning at the same speed as the tested wheel) you're ok

The problem comes when your testing 4X4s with an LSD centre diff, but I'll have to admit I don't know how you'd test that without a decelerometer
