I’m paying quite a high insurance at the moment about £1200 for street parking hurl
It’s my first year so I expect a few specialist insurers to be interested this year in a more competitive quote.
Thing is my baby spends most of its time( winter and bad weather) in my parents garage under a cover and when its at my place even on the street it still lives under a good quality all weather cover.
When I next insure should I say garaged? Its no lie, just the garage isn’t at my address. What do any of you people think of thisscratchchin , after all most people say garaged when there ant a hope in hell of the car ever getting in there!.smash

If it spends the majority of its time in the garage at your parents address, then I can't see why you couldn't insure it as garaged at their postcode. I would have thought that most insurers would understand this if you explain this honestly to them. If you are unlucky enough to have a claim when the car is at your postcode then I would expect to be thoroughly investigated, however!

If you insure it a garaged address then you will need to tell them that it is frequently at another (ie your home) address and not always in a garage.
If you dont tell them then you are effectively uninsured.

.....like they're actually gonna check and be able to prove it.

Oh, trust me, if there's a big claim if there is an accident with a high value or a theft, they'll check, mate. No doubt about it.

I have yet to see an insurance company pay out before they have exahusted EVERY avenue of potentially not paying.

The only time an insurance company check what you have told them is just before they hand over a cheque. Up until that point they have nothing to lose by taking your money even if you have lied to them.

Not worth risking losing a claim to save a few quid on the premium.

It is unlikely that they will catch you but in my opinion the likelihood isnt the problem. If you have a claim then you are more likely to be caught. The whole principle of insurance is (was !) honesty.
It is the impact of being caught that is the problem eg you could have an accident with millions of £'s of damages. Having to fund this yourself could end up in big probs eg lose your house, relationships, financial well being, health etc...
Fiddling car insurance is for losers.

Hi
The comments about fiddling the insurance to save a few quid are very valid and correct. If everybody insured properly, or insured at all, all our policies would be cheaper as we all pay a bit in our premiums towards uninsured losses!!!
Back on thread, have a look at renting a garage near to your home. Perhaps ask neighbours who dont use their garage etc. £500 quid a year renting a garage should reduce the insurance dramatically, your pride and joy is garaged all the time, and its closer to your home (than you parents house) so you can drive it more ;o)
Regards Moose.

I see what you all say and I would never try and lie on the insurance for obvious reasonseek. its just not worth the worry , but what if one of you guys who insure "garaged" spent the night at a travel lodge saysleep or a freinds , and your car was stolen , then what?, back to my original problem is that the car is only at my place in good weather and normally at my parents garage ( about 3 miles away) . My point being even a car that has "garaged" on the insurance cant always be in there unless you never drive it anywhere-else and park it. ( day or over night).

I managed to insure the Chim in its first year through one of the specialists but had to accept a high excess - its a lot better now. Even so I have 3 claims against me , car lives on drive and it still came in about £700...

So long as you tell the ins co where it is normally kept but explain that it is often elsewhere then you are fine.

some specialist insurance companies when it is stated as garaged will not accept claims at your address after certain a certain time at night if the car is not in garaged......

I noticed this in the small sprint one day a few years ago when i was bored....I have not put it to the test as my car is garaged all the time when not being used.

And it is a right pain in the ass having to put it away each night - my garage is not easy to get into etc. and very inconvenient.
