Are TVR prces gonna drop?
Discussion
Guys,
I am in the process of buying my first TVR Tuscan 2000 (with rebuild) and was wanted to ask 3 quick questions...
1. Due to all these TVR re-location 'issues' are the prices going to drop like a bomb? I ask this question as a friend of mine is telling me this will happen and not to buy just yet.
2. Everything on the car is 100% except for one thing. The heater... went for a long test drive and there was no heat coming out. The owner was telling me it's got something to do with a flap that needs to open to let the hot air in???? This would happen automatically??? Can anybody shed any light on this??
3. Is there any specific things I need to look out for to see if it is a good car. I have checked pretty much everything and think all is good but am hoping there may be some Tuscan specific thing I should look out for.
I am hopefully picking the car up this afternoon so any help would be very much appreciated. Couldn't sleep last night as I was so excited - Just want to make sure my excitement isn't clouding my judgement!
Cheers guys
Billy

For Tuscan buying advice have a look here. History and condition are the key to finding a good Tuscan.
Regards prices.....who knows. Some say they'll go up, others say they'll go down. Take your chances. My hunch is that they're now pretty much as low as they'll get. Once the situation with TVR resolves itself (which ever way it goes) then prices will firm back up.
The heater problem is nothing to worry about. The plastic gear that drives the heater blend door is prone to stripping its thread. Easily replaced come service time.

Prices will drop and continue to drop like a Steinway from tower block, due to the issues and uncertainties with the company...
No offence, but you're talking rubbish....
none taken
so your telling me cars don't depreciate now, and that the state of the parent company doesn't matter???
One word 'Rover'

Thats really odd cause I bought my MG ZT for £6000 just before MG went bust and then 6 months later sold it for £6200 after they had gone bust with 4000 extra miles on the clock

I knew you were about to compare the situation with that of Rover... I honestly don't know where to start...
You are comparing a high production affordable car to a low production moderately priced supercar. The two market's couldn't be any more different. Secondly, of course i'm not saying cars don't depreciate, I am disagreeing with your sweeping statement, something about "Prices will drop and continue to drop like a Steinway from tower block, due to the issues and uncertainties with the company". What utter rubbish.
What is more likely to happen is a mixture of people selling their TVR's and an awful lot of people holding on to their current one. Part of TVR's problem was that TVR owners/buyers were/are enthusiasts; why would they then all try desperately to sell off their cars.
So many other flaws in your argument. Not got the patience to type it up i'm afraid.

He's good isn't he
I guess though that nobody will argue that the existing doubts over whether there will be a TVR in the future, potential problems with warranties & future ongoing supply of spare parts can't have done anything OTHER than accelerated rates of depreciation? You buy with your heart not your head, but even so ....

Or you could argue that the relative rarity of a marque no longer being produced (if that is the case) will make it more desirable?
And I dont think anyone believes there will be an issue re spare parts supply.
Sorry...got to (somewhat) agree with bodger boy...
I bought my Chim last March for £13k (R Reg 4L 36K Miles) - It seemed to be the going rate at the time on PH & Autotrader. Value today - about £10.5k (43K Miles). Thats a drop of 19.25% which is big.
I also have a Rover 75 which was worth £10k 4 years ago and is worth (if lucky) £2k today. Thats a drop of £8K in 4 years or 20% per annum, again big.
I don't know what the future holds but TIV's are currently depreciating in the marketplace at a worrying rate.
IMHO

I seem to remember reading a couple of weeks ago that a Cerb owner on PH has had his car off the road since last May because he can't source the correct windscreen for it..........

Glib comment from someone with no history and a blank profile. Listen to advice from people who have owned these cars. There is plenty of experience both good and bad on here. Wacky Racer said:

Had a similar experience with a bloody heat shield - whilst the Chimaera was in full production!
There is no doubt about it. There will be a period during which spare parts become very difficult to source. Then it *will* get better as there is GOOD BUSINESS in supplying bits to keep these cars on the road. Just don't expect parts to be cheap - limited production runs by the original suppliers etc won't allow for that.
As to do I think TVR cars are depreciating? Yes of course they are.
Are they practically worthless? Of course they aren't.
There IS a support network still. Its just that its "independent" - and, perhaps, best suited to enthusiast owners rather than people looking for a different choice when evaluating Porsches and their competition.
