I had a Friend that swore by Evo-Stick said its the best to get high on. His nick name was pigeon, because he jumped of a viaduct believing he could fly(when he'd been on the glue). When ever he sweated he used to smell of Evo-Stick. Sorry this is now help at all, but it's a load of my mind.

Hi Del, When i used to build fibreglass boats, we always used super glue.
Not in the silly little tubes, but a product called 'Frame fix'from any good builders merchants, come's as a small bottle with the glue in, and an air airarshole activator spray. And it sticks like sh*t to a blanket, remember to degrease the area first though.

Thanks Dave,

Do you reckon the rubber will need roughing up a bit first to take the shine off it ??

Yes i think you should do that with a very fine grit,ie 350 grit to remove any polish.

PS don't be confused with super glue and araldite type glues, which are made up from epoxy resins. They are a million miles apart.
The former being a pure chemical bond, and the latter being of the sticky type bond, sounds a daft use of words, but thats the differance.

What about a silicon based thing? Can get black Sikoflex type thing in a tube? Or neoprene rubber glue for shoe soles? How do these affect paint and fibreglass? Just thought they would maybe provide a deeper 'gap fill' type adhesive.

Personally I'd go for a flexible adhesive. Fiberglas and rubber on the car will both flex with driving and through thermal expansion. nerd

We use Loctite products in our marine applications and find their 53** range the bogs dollocks. We use them for bonding steel to steel, rubber to steel, makralon to rubber and tons of other applications. Go for the high strength black version (should be near invisible under the rubber), this will also make it water tight. Once set the stuff has to be chiselled off !!! Just make sure the area is properly prepared.

We buy ours through RS, but there are many other suppliers. Just make sure you where PPE and don't get the stuff everywhere !!!!

A good hint for this is to put masking tape around the area. If you get any excess ooze over then it disappears when you take the tape off.

The problem is the rubber is a T section with the top of the T being a dome section. This needs to be pressed down over a curved 2ft length, so it has to be a contact adhesive or instant glue, done in manageable sections 6" or so at a time..

contact adhesives dosn`t stick to rubber properly,it will peel off after a few damp nights,
the best stuff is polyurethane sealent(sikkaflex type).
super glue gives a good instant bond but isn`t flexible and will likely get brittle eventually and allow lift.
