When we have a frost I get the outline of a large X appear on the bonnet of my cerb, and on my way into Swindon I saw a chim with exactly the same. Can anyone advise why?

It's the cross brace strengthening under the bonnet, due to the difference in thickness the temperature is also different, hence more or less frost depending which bit you look at.
I know it's a bit sad that i know that, before anyone says.

also when we had our 350i, when it was cold or frosty, a 'TVR' image could be seen on the bonnet.

This was due to it having 'TVR' embossed on the underbonnet heatshield.
