Dear all
I have received confirmation that we have not succeeded in setting the Guinness World Record for the largest parade of single-marque cars.

I registered our World Record Attempt on Monday 6th November (the day we decided to proceed with London Thunder), and received some general guidelines on what material was classified as approved “evidence”. This was video, kindly taken by the guys at Streetlife TV as we left the Ace Café.

I have just received the “specific guidelines” for the record attempt, 2 months after registration, followed 2 minutes later by an e mail confirming that we failed to achieve the record:

“You sent evidence of your claim without waiting to receive the specific guidelines that govern this record attempt and did not supply enough evidence to corroborate your claim.”

Not terribly helpful really!

Amongst other things, the minimum distance of parade is 2 miles, and evidence is required that all cars cross the start and finishing lines, the parade must be continuous, and cars should not be more than 2 car lengths apart.

So, given we only had 20 days to plan and execute London Thunder, it seems like the attempt was not really possible given what we were doing on the day.

I am sure that many of you will share my disappointment, especially in the light of the recent Lotus attempt, BUT ours was not a “commercial” event, and the World Record Attempt was not the prime reason for the day.

I hope that you will all have great memories of being part of a day of raising the profile of the plight of the TVR workers at that time, and of giving them a vote of thanks for their skill and dedication in producing our fantastic cars. I know that the letter of thanks that we all received from them
( www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=330655&f=13&h=0 ) certainly made the effort worthwhile for many of you as well as for them.

Thanks to your generosity, the activities surrounding London Thunder raised just over £7,500 for the workers fund, which they decided should be spent on a great big “send off” party. As you know, this has been named the ThunderBall, and takes place in the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Saturday 10th February. There are still a few tickets left, which can be obtained here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=342369&f=13&h=0

ThunderBall will be the final event that we organise, but if any of you out there fancy having a go at breaking that record again, I now have the specific guidelines.

Hopefully see you in Blackpool on the 10th
Cheers
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the info. Really sorry we didn't achieve the record. Though we all know it is morally ours!!
Its been said many times but thanks to you and the rest of the team that put the event together in very quick time.. You did your best and its only red tape that has stood in the way of the record. I certainly wont be forgetting sitting outside Harrods in a line of about 50 TVR's bringing the pedestrians to a standstill!!!
Also we achieved alot of publicity for the factory and all the workers there which as you say was our prime objective.

And its very TVR that whatever happens, if we're going down, we're going down fighting and making alot of noise!

I'm gutted for everyone but by damn it everyone did their best!!!

Sorry to hear that the record wasnt officially made, but in the hearts and minds of the TVR owners, it WAS the biggest single marque convoy, more than just a convoy it was a mobile parade of pride, admiration, loyalty, devotion and respect!!

I still hold great admiration and respect for those of you who made the day what it was clap bow clap

With regards to guiness, a couple of friends in the strength game have had their fair share of troubles getting their feats officially judged, but although they failed in having the record officially recognised, they still feel the pride in the hearts when they look back on their achievments

Sorry to hear the sad news that the officicals have not recognised the attempt but we are not too upset as sitting in a cerb as a passenger with my son and a great guy Ian revving up at every available chance, bringing the capital of our country to a complete standstill was such a fantastic and memorable day. my husband (ex tvr) and our other son was in another cerb with and equally great driver and had the same wonderful experience we did. yes is was a disappointment not to have the official bit but to see all those hundreds of cars around London will be something to remember for years to come. hope to see you at the thunder ball and thanks again to all the organisers of the ball and the london thunder, because without you the last few months would have been unbearable

2 entirely different companies m8, I believe they 'split' about a decade ago. Guinness publishing is part of HiT.

We all know how many of us were in attendance on the 26th yes

Perhaps Breaking the record on TVR's 60th would be more appropriate infact lets go for numbers of cars and total number of HP that will stop the Lotus guys breaking it later in the year.

Do you mind if we call it the TVR 59 1/2 British celebrations as they couldn't quite make 60 years before turning turtle

Shame we didn't get if "official" but to be honest it was always a secondary aim after show of support for the workforce.

I am sure we can smash LoTuS' record at Rockingham so the LT would have been short-lived anyway.

Who's for an "official" 500 +

How about we set a speed record aswell ? 500 tvr's no more than 2 car lengths apart for 2 miles

at 100 MPH driving

They must hold the record for being the slowest dimwits to reply to a Record attept.

Totally Sucks but who cares it was one hell of a blast and a great day for the workers.

Is there a World record for the best ever atmosphere in Whitehall ??
I am sure we can collect enough photo & video evidence to prove that we hold that record. I know everyone there would agree with me. We need to register the record attempt again at Rockingham for the Back Home 60th Celebrations. I can bet we wont be split up by black cabs to spoil our attempt.

I think you'll find the Lotus boys checked the rules before they did it.

Sod it - let's do it for real again in the summer for the 60th anniversary.
All we need is a somewhere to fit all the cars in.

Back Home for one last time?
