Hello, all

Having problems-- It first manifested itself as car just cutting out as if turned off. On re starting behaved fine- fired back up as normal (only happened 2 or 3 times). Then recently (last Sunday, I think) began to misfire slightly so took it as a warning and returned home. Came to fire her up to put in garage, started fine, moved forward about 4 feet then cut out.Refused to re start and as not started since. Turns over happily but won't fire up, I think no spark (fuel pump primes as normal, etc.. Any clues , guys? I've run out of light and my fingers are cold as a penguin's foot. Thanks in advance. Tim

scratchchin Sounds like an electrical problem to me, although difficult to say without having a squint. Firstly, pull the HT lead off the centre of the dizzy and hold it about 1/2 " away from a point of earth, this will verify performance of the coil itself. Get someone to crank it over whilst holding the HT lead, you should get a healthy spark tracking to earth(use insulated pliers to prevent a nasty belt). Then check the rotor arm and the inside of the dizzy cap for excessive wear on the terminals and arm. if all seems fine, then the standard HT leads have a habit of breaking down, also check plug extensions and of course plugs themselves(unlikely).
Good luck!

sounds like the coil pack, comment before was spot on. check for a spark then go from there.

Yeah, sorry, forgot to mention I've had the coil checked in the week and it's fine.

I had an intermittant fault similar to this for a few years.

Finally tracked it down only 2 weeks ago!

It was a dodgy relay in the passenger footwell. rolleyes It was one connected to the alarm/immob. wiring in my case.

Check all your relays for rattles or poor connections. This includes the fuel pump relays (normally 2 identical silver ones with a red cross or line painted across).

Good luck, hope you solve your 'bug' quicker than I did!
