I'm planning a euro trip for the summer which will be around 3 weeks in total and will be driving the T350 through France/Spain/Portugal. Slightly concerned should the worst happen and I break down somewhere what happens if the car needs to be flat bedded back to UK for example if it's something serious. Or if not that serious I'm worried about euro mechanics attempting to fix things in an unfamiliar engine. Has anyone ever had the unfortunate happen in Europe? I'm kind of hoping more that I can get some kind of cover that would transport the car back for me so i could hire a replacement and carry on my holiday!

Green flag will repatriate the car and give you a hire car to finish your trip - they did it for me last summer and were superb

And should they damage your car in transit will deny all knowledge and you'll end up having to take them to court to get your repair costs covered!!!

AA 5 star - £38

- Took Griff away when the engine popped
- Provided a hire car for the week
- Repatriated the Griff within the week (arrived home before us)
- Allowed us to take the hire car back thro the tunnel (loads of wine!!)
- Swapped to a rt hand drive car for the home leg
- Allowed to drop the hire car back locally to us on the Monday rather than the Sunday when we got back

Best £38 I ever spent

Forgot to say - zero chance of J Foreigner attempting to fix it imho. They all wanted to look at it but had zero inclination to repair. Anyway I think the insurance only covers minor repairs

I take it that was before Neil worked his magic on your engine then?

Paul - have a look at the Le Mans forum which has tonnes of advice on heading over the Channel and the various considerations you have to take into account.

I followed England at last years WC in Germany in a S6 2001 Cerb. She was serviced before I started the trip, I bought RAC cover and she didn't miss a beat. Since then I've driven to Paris and back (from Kent), then to Frankfurt, Zurich, Basle, Riems and back.

These cars are not the 'unreliable beasts' most people think.

Hi Jeffsy

So far so good, i was a bit dissapointed to say the least at the thornbury rolling road day 250bhp at 4000rpm before they stopped due to pinking, he did some tinkering and recommended dave from rolling road in chelt to remap my car. At least its back to 300bhp now.

I saw your motor in Neils last week (luv those pipes), i drove mine over in that snow!. The heater control box had a bad earth on it which he has fixed and now he is doing a few other jobs that "our local" TVR dealer seems incapable of fixing.

Highly unlikely that even if you could find a mechanic capable of repair, any parts needed would almost certainly not be readily available (unless you take your own).

If you choose to have the vehicle repatriated and you continue your holiday with a hire car, be aware that it could take 2-3 weeks for the car to come back, as they will bring back broken cars "en masse". There is indeed a real risk that it will be damaged - mine was by some muppet taking a chunk out of the body with a metal tie-down buckle. And that's without getting into the low ground clearance problem. My Wedge is pretty low, needs wooden blocks to get onto a low loader, and there is no proper towing eye. I don't think I would ever allow unaccompanied repatriation again.

Hey,

we do have TVR dealers as well on the continent. No worries mate, it is not needed to be towed back to the UK :-) Before doing the trip, get in contact with the local TVR clubs and check out what they can advise you.
