It's insurance renewal time again and I have taken on board forum comments and done the ring round of the usual suspects and discovered that everyones comments are pretty much spot on, I would however appreciate some input on TVRCC organised track days.

I have never done a track day, but I'm tempted to try it. Manning insurance cover track days but you must be a member of TVRCC - which I am not currently.

So my questions to the Pistonheads collective are:

What is the cost of TVRCC organised track days ? and,

Is it worth having this cover built into your policy or taking out additional cover as and when needed ?

And finally, is there one planned for Castle Coombe ? ( Just down the road from me )

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is an issue of semantics, but IIRC Mannings require you to be a TVRCC member in order to get insurance with them, not purely to cover trackdays. In fact their track cover will works on any trackday as long as it is non-racing and the organisers are Assoc of British Track Day organisers (or whatever they're called) approved. This also includes some days at the likes of Spa and Zolder on the continent, again as long as they're run by an approved body.

I'm up in Worcestershire, so likewise Combe is prolly the closest track for me, and in fact I did a Bookatrack day there in the autumn which Mannings happily covered. The likes of BaT days tend to be somewhat cheaper than the "official" TVR ones, but then you are somewhat at the mercy of the other drivers with whatever they have brought, whereas the TVR days are likely to be 90% TVRs.

For the sake of example, the TVR day I did at Combe a few years ago had about 60 cars, with a Subaru, M3 and a handful of Caterfields being the interlopers. At the BaT day last year, I was with a pal, and he and I were the only TVRs, our session groupies being an Evo9, MGB GT race car, a couple of Porkers (and their cars hehe), an Exige, and a couple of Honda Civic shopping trollies.

been with A.Mannings sincegetting a TVR, what they saved me over the other insurers was easily worth the £35 substription cost. And as a bonus you get a really good magazine once a month.

On purely financial terms Mannings can save me £70 on my current insurance.
A Plan can save me £150 but that does not cover me for track days.

The Mannings cover requires membership of TVRCC which cost £43 so it reduces the discount but may be well worth it depending on the cost of a track day, which if I had the cover I would probably do.

If I had to pay for additional cover plus £200 ish fro the day I would think twice, that's why I wanted to know what the TVRCC track days cost. I can't find out from their web site because it's a members only area.

I know this sounds like i'm going round and round but a few figures would help me decide on which policy / supplier to go for.

Last time I took out track day cover it cost me £175 so well worth having inclusive cover I would say if you're planning on doing a few!

You need Hagerty Classic Insurance....seriously cheap plus 10% of insurance premium for a track day. no brainer.

Alistair.

I have spoken to Hagerty, really decent guy but the cover worked out the same as my current premium, so their 10% per track day did not even come into the equation.

Darren at Hagerty did say that the 6000 miles a year I was looking for was on the high end of the spectrum for them.

So Mannings are looking good at the moment.

Peter,

Our track days vary in cost depending upon the venue from (using last year's figures) under £150 for Cadwell/Snetterton to £210 for Brands Hatch. The only track day for which I know the price for this year is Rockingham which will be about £180.

Hope this helps - if not please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards

Ralph,

That's exactly what I needed.

So combine that with Mrs Cuchillo's advice that one track day's insurance can be £175 if I get that in the policy and the premium still comes out less, ( including TVRCC membership ) I think I've done OK.

Are there any plans to do Castle Coombe this year ?
