Nemesis of TVR
Discussion
OR
What do people regard as the arch enemies to our beloved TVRs?
(I'm not just talking direct performance rivals)
Spotting some cars makes me feel happy to be on the road with fellow car enthusiasts etc, while other marques can make me angry/competitive.
I'm sure it's usually subconscious behaviour, but I often find myself gripping the wheel and preparing to do battle...
Personally (Chim owner), it's my local Imprezas that wind me up.
people like the t
t in a Golf of some description who almost killed himself the other day trying to pass me in the Cerb, I accelerated away from the lights on a quiet country b road to somewhere around the 80 mph which was quite sufficient seeing how bumpy and uneven the road surface was on a not very wide road then the aforementioned absolutely thrashed the arse out of his motor so as to pass me at about 95-100, bouncing all over the place, so what had he proved?

Not deliberately I can assure you but this website has had a lot to do with the demise of TVR. A "website" was quoted in quite a few of the car mags and even on Top Gear when they reported about the problems at TVR. I know that TVR had major problems especially with the speed six engine but the popularity of Pistonheads has been fundamental in TVR getting a bad reputation.
It is truly relevant that of 100 people happy with something they have bought 20 will make posts or thereabouts on a forum but of 100 people unhappy it is more like 80 and they will make A LOT OF NOISE! I know when I sold my T350 nearly every call I got someone quoted Pistonheads and the horror stories they had read and tried to get the car for nothing. I am not saying TVR didn't have problems but this website has definitely been a major factor in the loss of sales which eventually was the reason TVR went under.
I know lots will contest this but IMHO if Pistonheads did not exist TVR would!!!

NOVA`S!!!
Why will a young nova driver try and race anyting do they not know that they are driving a slow shoe box on wheels.
Also like to laugh at porsche drivers as i pass them, they onyl got a porsche as they feel safe cos they aint good enough drivers to handle a tvr hehe. they need the traction control and abs etc to get them out of trouble, there aint many cars as balls out as a tvr and any that are need respect

And they'd still be guilty of engineering poor quality into the product. Jeez, you can't blame people for discussing problems with their £50K cars, especially when the resolution for them wasn't forthcoming (towards the end). Basically, don't shoot the messenger.

Not me, agree with all of the above.

Please don't turn this thread into another "This is why TVR failed and I know best what should have been" thread. There are plenty of places to post stuff like that. Someone posed a genuine and interesting question, don't hijack it.
Right, to answer the original question...BMWs. A number of years ago it was the Sierra/Mondeo that was the archtypical badly driven company/travelling salesman's barge. That mantle now seems to have been taken by silver BMWs.
I had to bite my tongue a few years ago though when a best mate of mine actually bought one

I thought he did answer the question that was asked and did nothing to Hi-jack the post.

No, the question clearly asked which cars are the "enemy" when driving a TVR.
Read the whole post, not just the first line...

Personally (Chim owner), it's my local Imprezas that wind me up.
Frankly, when I'm in the TVR I don't have a care in the world because:
1. I'm in my leisure time (otherwise I'd be driving the company hack)
II. The roof is off and the heater is keeping me warm 'n' cosy
c. I'm driving the rawest, baddest, loudest f**k-off sports car on the road, and everyone knows it.
