I'd just filled up with petrol today, went to exit the station turning right. Car on opposite side (side I'd be entering onto) stops to let me out, I look right and it's clear, I dither by which time a car has come off the roundabout going left and smacks straight into my side.
Entirely my fault for not looking properly when crossing the lane and being slow on take-off - the other car (a J plate Escort) looks to be written off as it'll need a new wing, bonnet, light, bumper and painting - my Chim on the other hand has only been back 3 months since having a full front end and drivers side re-spray. Gutted is an understatement but I've only myslef to blame. A tiny momentary lapse in concentration and this is the result (though it's amazing how well GRP stands up to impact) - the real damage is what can't be seen in the pics - the spidering is visible under the paintwork all over the wing and door....

yikes can imagine you must feel VERY gutted right now! its not nice to see, but i was expecting the visual damage to be much worse than that.

It's what you can't see on the photos though - Theres now a very pronounced ridge just off the top of the wing where its actually cracked right through. The hit actually knocked my car about a foot sideways. Fibreglass is an excellant shock absorber but a knock like this will have done a hell of a lot of damage to under the paintwork. I'd be willing to bet there won't be a lot of change from 4 grand to get this sorted. Thank christ my last insurance renewal meant I could get my NCB protected....

I did similar to this when I rolled down a slope, out of a jet wash bay, I jumped out and said four hundred quid to sort the damage I could see, it turned out to be 3k plus.

Nice to see there are still some people in the world who can proudly hold their hand up and say 'I f****d up, entirely my fault sir'! Does this integrity only come from driving a TVR, or is it just 'Britishness' which is becoming a rare quality these days?

Hope you get it sorted, I know how you feel!

The sooner it's done the less the pain. Good luck.

Really really sorry this has happened Zippee!

I see we are in the same area - have you met Plasticman? That's his PH name. You might like to talk to him about your car. He does great things for TVR's! Just a thought in case it helps........

Not much I can say except I really feel for you Tony and I respect that fact that you accept that you made a mistake. Not sure I could be so gracious.

Cheers guys! Yeah the other guy was fine about it. I phoned my insurers for him whilst we were there to start the ball rolling etc and advised him what to do. He was a young lad from Lithuania and my first thoughts were that he'd have no insurance of his own etc. but he produced all his docs and was quite OK about it. His car was still driveable but I left him all my details and told him to call me if he has any trouble.
As mentioned it was entirely my fault and in that sort of situation you just have to hold your hands up!

Bad luck mate. Really feel for you, but top marks for admitting fault and helping the guy deal with the insurance. I'm sure it'll be back to health soon, and at least you won't be missing any sunshine while it's being repaired!

Really sorry to hear about your car Tony, at least you're ok.

Plus side, think of all the petrol you will save when it's being fixed and should be back for summer.

Tony,

Sorry to hear your news but as Mr Sheen says at least you and the other driver are ok

Is it still driveable until you can get it fixed or is there any mechanical damage?

Hope you get the car sorted soon in time for the good weather

Chris
