TVR no longer listed in Top Gear mag!
Discussion
Sad to see that TVR is no longer listed in the new car data in the back of the latest Top Gear magazine. My first awareness of TVR was from looking at the mental performance figures listed in the back of my Dads car mags when I was a boy. I've never owned a TVR but have been very close and would love to see the cars listed again soon.
Good. Currently TVR is dead and whatever bastardised thing St Nic and Yanks are working on sure as hell wont be a TVR. When its back producing handbuilt sports cars in the North West of England that terrify the life out of Ferrari, Lambo and Porsche drivers...then Ill acknowledge TVR as being alive again.
No, I dont give a monkeys if that attitude is out of touch with the modern world.

A TVR not built by our Blackpool friends will never be a true TVR..........

Good to see people sitting on the fence!!!! So what are hardened TVRists opinions on the new Typhoon that may or may not surface in the near/medium/distant future?????
Yep.. All current TVR publicity about the Typhoon, Veyron Beater, x amount of thousand cars to be built by year x are merely just that.. Publicity..
At present there are no cars trundling out of any factories with a TVR badge on em...
And yes i agree.. to me if it ain't British then it ain't a TVR.

Any car built in Italy
with Russian
and American
involvement will never be a TVR no matter what engine they put in it.
Run by incompetent people - the man who had an idea to get them into America cant name for legal reasons had the strange idea of putting a V8 of American origin my god into a TVR. Strangely enough that would have by-passed emmissions testing for the States- helped get them in and increased sales, Therefore helping retain the factory.
The wee Rusky fell out with him and told him to leave the premises allegedly.
Talk about lack of foresight and utter contempt.
IMHO for the last three years no one in TVRs management knew sweet FA about a car company, how to run it or how to bite their lip and do something that would keep money flowing to allow development to continue.
With every flamboyant and ever wilder press release you just know that they have all lost the plot.
My first press release is that I am designing a lunar car capable of 500mph- more to come soon. By the way it will be a virtual company and outsourcing to people like NASA.

I remember a while back, many people were saying yank V8 engines would be great in TVR's....
Well, if this yank involvement pulls that off, and somehow drops in a big reliability increase, surely these 'future' cars could be the ticket for all out muscle car ownership??
The AJPV8 with DOHC would have been the way forward... the speed 6 matured to a level where it was better than mk1....
TVR's and V8, or even BMW style V10's.... somethings gotta happen...
But story was (how i understand it), Wheeler knew it was time to let the company go, TVR isnt the only company hit with problems, most small-number manufacturers have been hit in recent years... and most small manufacturers over the decades have gone up and down... we all assumed that an owner of great wealth taking over the company might make a difference, but I heard sales went belly-flop, only 100 odd saggys were sold... not exactly big money...
I dont know, not backing anyone up, but running a car company has always been a hard business, especially a car company which makes buckets with engines...
Porsches and M3's/M5's selling like hotcakes though....
Now Aston Martin is owned by ProDrive, lets see how long that one lasts...
Jaguar? Ford were thinking of letting go, changed their minds, the next S-Type designs look good, maybe sales may recover... but then new Toyotas and Honda's looking good too... soo maybe not ???
TreVor is definitely dead, I cant see how they'll be back, it would take a miracle, its not just money, its the bad publicity the company has recieved over the past year or so, especially the lay-offs, and the factory closing down...
* Bad publicity
* Widely accepted poor reliablity
* Commonly accepted unsafe cars (not true though! as some crashed ones have shown)
* Not knowing if the company will stay up or go down (affecting residuals of new car owners)
Add it all up...
= death.
IMO
