Question to anyone who has fitted a Rollcentre rollbar.

The rear struts are described in the Tower View instructions (and in the diagram) as mounting on the diagonal chassis tubes above the diff. However, the rear struts have a "U" style clamp welded at the bottom which is aligned to fit over a chassis tube running from front to back. Has anyone fitted one of these bars that could help? Can you tell me whether the rollbar is designed to fit onto the chassis tubes between the rear suspension mounts (not as per the instructions)? Anyone know someone at Rollcentre that can help?

I’m keen to be as clear as I can on what is involved before I start cutting holes in my pride and joy!

The instructions show there are four mounting locations, two on each side. The photo of the diag one is for the main hoop. The Rear struts go on the chassis between the suspension mountings. It is difficult to confirm by email so I would suggest giving Tower View a call. 0208 452 6922 Talk it through with them.

Thank you for the replies. I'm in Devon by the way.

The instructions show the rear struts mounting on diagonal chassis tubes (but still horizontal if you know what I mean!) What you say Steve makes sense and I guessed that's where the rear struts would fix (but when the instructions say otherwise it's a bit confusing). Tower View just said it would be obvious when I had cut the holes which I didn't feel too comfortable with!

ah .. Devon is a bit of a way ... I've got a Tower View fitted rollbar on my 97 Chim, and a crap digital camera. I'll see if I can get some shots of where it's attached.

Thanks Alistair - that would be really helpful.

I have spoken with Tower View again and they have confirmed the rear struts are clamped between the suspension mounts (not like the diagram). Feel OK getting the bar covered in leather now before fitting it.

Has anyone noticed noise from the chassis being transmitted up through the rollbar? Someone has recommended filling it with foam to deaden the noise. I think I will because it would be very hard to do afterwards.

Can't say I've noticed any more noise. Would have to be pretty damn loud to make much difference .

Im in the same boat, looking at the bar and the instructions the rear stay ,mounts are different.

the photo of the main hoop mount makes sense, but the diagram suggests a similar mounting for the stays which doesnt match the actual bar...

Perhaps the space between the rear suspension mounts on the chassis would be too small for the "boot" style clamp as used on the main hoop? Shame really as I like that solution. That said, the design looks really good to me and the actual fixing point for the stays seems ideal. Tower View just need to amend the instructions.

Are you covering the bar in leather to match the interior of the car or the exterior paint colour?

I only ask as im thinking of having mine done too.

To match the interior. I'm hoping it'll blend in and become unnoticeable!

Yes, but my damper mounts don't have any bushes which must mean they transmit a lot more noise/vibration into the chassis.

It does say in the instructions and I quote:

"Please note that the rear mounts have the welded U-bolt fitting and the front mounts have the seperate clamps. "

It also says on the caption that they are U bolt clamps.

I have to talk to TV tomorrow so I'll pass on your comments and get a revised version sorted. I'll either get it up on the web site or email it to you if that will help.

Garry, If you want to see how a roll bar is fitted to a Wedge (400SE), My car is currently in peninsula 01884 35341having the old roll bar removed, and a new Bigger Better bar fitted.
Im sure if you dropped them a bell / payed them a visit, they would show you how it is fitted ( Work is due to start tomorrow ).

Thanks Peter/Steve/Jason

Jason - Peninsula might send me off with a flea in my ear seeings as it's not their rollbar Their's is a different design with different mounting positions. I think they weld their's on also but thanks for the thought anyway.

Definitely worth amending the instructions Steve so that Dave doesn't have to put up with annoying 'phone calls from people like me!

Yes. Towerview have just fitted a rollcentre rollover bar to my wedge. The electric fuel pump buzz is transmitted along the bar and is quite loud. At least I will know when it stops working! Might be different in a Griffith.

My origional bar transmitted a lot of transmission noise into the cabin. We tried filling the bar with foam, but that didnt stop it. Long journies can be a pain if the roof is up, but then I just turn the music up.

Mine squeaks a bit, well a lot actually - like a demented parrot on bumpy roads.

Mine is quiet. Biggest noise problem is caused by the roll bar rubbing on the body. Use the rubber to fit close and then sealent so that there is a flexible seal.
