Had a bit of a rubbish commute last week in the Chim with it farting popping and banging and hardly able to move out of its own way. I was having to blip throttle to keep it running which was particularly embarassing when a bloke turned up next door to me at the traffic lights in a Toyota Yaris and thought I was looking to race him due to the noise.
Fortunately on arriving at a safe location to stop it transpired that all that had happened was the air hose had become detached from the plenum thereby obviopusly confusing the air sensor.
Anyway while driving the car with this getting worse and worse (hair going grey at the same rate with Mr Not-At-All-Mechanical here starting to worry about camshafts and every other RV8 scare story) I thought that I really must take it to Mark Adams to sort the fuelling (its apparently pinking at 5k plus). So in conclusion has anyone got his latest telephone number?

More likely he's rushed off his feet, he always seems to have more work than he can keep up with.

Who, Mark? Or the people who employ him? You don't have to use his services if you don't want to.

before you start spending loads of hard earned dosh, why not take it to a decent tvr garage near you and have it set up, you may find that it will be running good as new for the sake of a hundred quid!
if your problem is then diagnosed as fueling then contact mark adams, or look into other options, I`d carefully consider the options first, but its your wallet!

Well I bought the car from Fernhurst who when informed it was pinking high up said "well you don't need to really rev it beyond five on the road sir and they all do that".

My particular desire to do this is more driven by the fact that I have a different cam on the beast which I don't think has been "mapped" in. If it were standard I would be happy to buy a pre-programmed chip but I don't think that will necessarily help. If anyone does have any ideas to save me the money then I am obviously all ears though!

nono They don't. If it's got a non-standard cam and not had the fuelling adjusted to suit, it may be running lean which can damage the engine, it would also mean you may not get the full benefit of the cam change.

That's rather what I thought and why I was sort of moving along the Mark Adams route but from what some people are saying that's not necessary??

Cam seems to be providing plenty of horsepower (315 at SRR) but obviously nervous to take it beyond five due to the leaness at top end

If you're running the original Lucas EFI system and you've changed the characteristics of the engine then you almost certainly need to change the fuelling to match. The simplest way to do this is to change the map in the ECU. There are probably only a dozen people in the country capable of doing this and probably no more than two or three that do it routinely. Mark Adams is easily the most well known and most experienced, and is the person I'd want to do it, no question about it. Even on a standard engine, a 'Mark Adams' setup may improve power and economy slightly but the most noticeable change is the improved throttle response. On a non-standard engine running the wrong fuel map the gains are likely to be greater. Mark also does an end-to-end check of the system to make sure that every bit is working exactly right, so you can be certain that the system is absolutely spot on afterwards.

Mark's time and experience doesn't come cheap. Depending how much further work you expect to do on the engine, you may find it makes financial sense to replace the original ECU with an aftermarket one. This will increase the number of people you can go to for work by a factor of a hundred or so which makes future changes a lot easier and cheaper, but you will still have to pay *somebody* for setting it up on a rolling road, and of course it costs time and money up front to install the new ECU and get it working.

What he said yes,
Wilder cam and making 315 scratchchin I assume when you had it on the RR at Surrey the AFR reading was leaning out towards to top end.
