My first T350 breakdown after a week of ownership!
Discussion
Hi all,
I was going to make my first post on here one of nothing but praise... unfortunately I was let down yesterday evening!
I'd been looking for a T350 for a few months using advice from this forum (V. useful thanks guys) and took the plunge on a mint 6K mile graphite grey 54 plate just over a week ago.
I'd spent the week down in Devon enjoying the great weather with the supurb car which never missed a beat. Didn't have any internet access out in the sticks so was going to post as soon as I got back.... I am now back, but got here on the train, the car is down in Surrey somewhere!
It was running beautifully. Had been going some 3-4 hours, whether this is a factor I dont know, when it just coughed a bit and died! Was driving through Midhurst at the time and just had to pull up on the curb. I vaguely remember seeing a "EFI?" or "E$%?" fault come up. Tried restarting and it coughed a bit but didnt maintain idling. Tried a few minutes later and no firing at all, just the starter turning the engine over!
As luck would have it, I walked round the corner to discover a recovery garage with a nice AA man waiting patiently for some business! He couldn't resolve the problem but helped me as far as Fernhurst TVR just before the shut up shop. They quickly checked the fuel pump before they closed and seemed to be working ok so waiting on their call today after a bit of further investigation. Car's now left with them some 200 miles from where I am!
I'm still in high spirits about the fantastic week I had with the car but hope this isn't the first of many potentially expensive repairs. Any suggestions as to why the car would just cough and die? Had half a tank of fuel and oil was nicely topped up and warm so pretty sure no negligence on my part!
Just gonna sit here with fingers crossed til I get a phonecall, I've still gotta take a trip down there in the girlfriend's Clio to empty the boot!

shame to hear your first week of owner ship marred by a breek down..if any consellation i think it sounds electrical rather than mechanical..prob a fuse or something similar ..could be relays .amp.coil or etc..hope they sort it soon.nice choice of car, glad to see you temted away from usual choice of boxter .s2000 etc.wants it sorted and rest of summer ahead ,you will realise what tvrs are all about..enjoy.

Cheers guys. I guess folk say you're not a proper TVR owner until you've had your first breakdown, just didn't expect it so soon!
TVR is definately the way forward if you want a proper sports car though. Had an S2000 for two years which was great but needed more grunt, sold an E46 M3 to get the T350 but that was boring in comparison. Still very happy with my choice... I'll update that statement when I find out the damage!

Thanks for the words of support and of course you were correct... it was an electircal problem!
The Legends at Fernhurst took a quick look at it despite not being booked in and having a mountain of other stuff to do... was a blown fuse for the ignition coils. First fuse that was replaced blew straight away so tried another and since it's been running fine.
Obviously it requires a little more investigation as to why it blows the fuse but they at least got me back up and running, and all free of charge. Legends, and a big thank you to them.
