Go to Applecross over the Pass of The Cattle ( Bealach na Ba)
Gairloch is very pretty and Ullapool is a good place for a walk and a look at the port ( It used to have the largest municipla loo I've ever seen.) Just outside Ullapool - a short walk from the road are the falls of Measach in Corrieshalloch Gorge. This is the tallest waterfall in Scotland I believe.

Further South go through Glen Coe and then stop on Rannoch Moor - you'll be surrounded by Mountains

Oban is good for a stop and if you can get the Ferry over to Mull that's a lovely island

Finally - it's always worth going to look at the Isle of Ewe - where there are tropical style plants.

What is the best mountain to look at - Slioch on Loch Maree. Marree and Torridon are probably the best two Lochs - plenty of walking or ambling if required

Stitch this lot together into a route and you'll see much of the best of the Western Highlands

Amazing place; have a look here for some thoughts and other threads on roads to go to. Scotland forum also superb;

Places to see - Plockton lovely, Torridon as mentioned, Summer Isles (north of Ullapool), Mull is lovely (Tobemory). Have a good trip!

Fort William and Ben Nevis is worth a look as well. Tell the wife to climb Ben Nevis while you go for a drive, that should give you at least one day's peace and enjoyment.

Aviemore and the Boat of Garten for a chairlift up the Cairgorms and a steam railway through wonderful scenery, you might even see an Osprey. Distillery tour at McCallens, boat trip down the Caledonian canal from Inverness to Loch Ness.

I think Mallaig is great and you can get a boat to take you up to the Kyle of Lochalsh and the bridge to the Isle of Skye

What the others said. Glencoe, Fort William, Ullapool, Kylescu - in other words, the very north west Highlands. I also love Skye, when you get to the Black Cuillins region the roads are fantastic.

Have a great time! thumbup
