Quite simply, my brethren, virtually every time I take my Griff for a spin I get some tosser, scratter or knobhead on my tail lights after a race! Is it just us, or do other cars attract unwanted attention of this type? I'm just enjoying a tootle in my beloved car- WWWHHHHYYYYY?!
Rant over.

I get it aswell the other night it was a mx5 i mean please.......
Just smile and resist your bound to get caught and not the other driver.
Ive had a few cars in my time and can't say that the others have grabbed this much attention apart from the westfield i had.
I drive a chim BTW when i drive the wifes BMW convertable no comments or races and it cost 3 times as much.
It has to be down to the uniqness (spell!)of the car.
Enjoy.

Happened to me in my cerb today, was stuck in a stream of traffic when an m5 decided to have a look in my boot! i let him overtake-he seemed happy even though he was stuck 2 cars in front for the rest of the journey. Well, it is the simple things that amuse simple minds...

I get the same number of tailgaters in my Chimaera as I've had with any other car, but don't actually get the boy-racers trying it on at all (yet).

German car drivers or chavs mate

I had a kid in a BMW 330Ci that mummy had obviously bought him blaze away from me the other day, so I though. Screw you - I'm not racing, got bugger all to prove. Saw him sitting behind a cab at the next set of lights so I used the other lane, smoked 'em and backed off. I saw him blaze past the cab and I just sat at dead on 30mph. He was so pissed off, kept dropping back and then accelerating at me to try and provoke me. I just smiled and let him get on with it, when I went to turn left he decided he had to floor it and go past me. Shame I never heard his engine

And as for chavs, I let them get away, just to the point when they are ahead of my cockpit but still 3foot from clearing my bonnet, then laugh at the 1.2 badge on the back and floor it in 1st for 2 seconds. They get the idea when they suddenly go backwards.

Either it doesn't happen to me or I just don't notice it. What I do get occasionally though, is yoof gesticulating, shouting and tooting of horns to get me to rev it - to which I usually duly oblige. ears

Oh yeah, you get that too. Kid on a BMX pulls up alongside last week... "Rev it mista! Just once, please!". Or the ultimate complement - A chav in his chavwagon behind me, trying to balance his camera-phone on top of the steering wheel to take a pic of the back end of her whilest he was still driving.

I found what appeared to be an old BMW M5 yesterday.....at a 2 mile long staight-ish section off some traffic lights.

It was slightly chavved, but not too much.

You couldn't hear his engine at all because of my guttural roar

However.....paperbag.....when the lights went green he just **vanished**....!

--whoosh--

gone

Must've had something very special to leave a Chimaera for dead.....

I've seen a supercharged M5 boasting 0-60 in 4.2 but that still wouldn't leave you far behind....

Standard specs:
1993 Chim 4.0: 0-60 4.7sec, 152mph top
1994 Chim 5.0: 0-60 4.4sec, 160mph top
2001 Chim 450: 0-60 4.7sec, 160mph top
2001 Chim 500: 0-60 4.1sec, 167mph top

1985 BMW M5: 0-62 6.1sec, 156mph top
1988 BMW M5: 0-60 6.4sec, 157mph top
1992 BMW M5v1: 0-60 6.5sec, 155mph top
1992 BMW M5v2: 0-60 5.7sec, 155mph top
1994 BMW M5: 0-60 5.8sec, 166mph top
1998 BMW M5: 0-60 5.3sec, 155mph top
2004 BMW M5: 0-60 4.7sec, 155mph top

So how exactly did one of these "older" ones manage to leave you standing? Did you stall it?

0-60's are OK...but this was hypothetically 0 - something else

I suspect my Chim isn't running to full power at the moment as its a little lumpy, plus I expect my delivery was craphehe

Also...I backed off when it became clear I wasn't going to make them go backwards [as is the norm]...as I didn't think it was worth my life to get a draw

Yep...I stalled it.....

Most hilariously I do get cars burning past me, absolutely revving the conkers off their cars when I've got the Tuscan Race Car on the back of the trailer being towed by the Land Rover.

For God's sake!

Last week I had a guy in a prancing donkey come wizzing past in what must have been first gear sounding just like the wife's hairdryer with 5000 volts going through it...

There are just loads of boy racers around here...I had an 'kitted up Astra up my harris last night at about 11.pm, long empty NSL road.

As we hit the twin lane bit - going at 55mph / my pace - about 1.5 miles up a sweeping left hander, he dropped a cog and went for it...so i squeezed the loud pedal and pulled away up the hill until I was about 600 yards clear with him still in the outside lane [overtaking air]...

Here's the good bit --> I then relaxed back to 70ish as he slowly wound me in inch by inch. He then proceded to overtake me accross the chevrons after the twin lanes had receded into one....with 8million revs...even his little sideways hat was sweating as he lurched ahead...[i was still idling along looking at sheep]....

"I couldn't believe he beat me" rolleyes

Almost exactly the same mentality as the above noted BMW kiddie who had to actually overtake me with foot to the floor even though I already had the left flashy thing on and was off the gas. Just so he could go home and tell all and sundry that his 330 beat a TVR "coz he's got the best car in England innit".

T1ts.

These specs have bandied about for years and IMHO they're b0ll0xs. I've been to time trials where all sorts of cars dash down the runway from a standing start.

Afraid to say NO CHIMAERA (inc 5L's) has ever done 0-60 in 4.7 let alone 4.1. The fastest I've EVER seen a 4L do it in was 5.6 secs. These specs are TVR's figures and I suspect the cars were probably new, stripped-out, race tuned, running "damn good" fuel, driven by drag race professionals and thrashed to the point of needing new transmission parts etc immediately afterwards.

Having said that, ALL manufacturers lie about their performance figuures or at the very least are "optimistic" about them.

Try doing it yourself (if you've the spare cash) and you'll see what I mean.

So, when you next pull up at the lights alongside somebody who's car should apparently do 0-60 in (say) 5.0 seconds don't worry...rest assured the person driving it will never achieve that result but bear in mind you wont be achieving 4.7 seconds either.
