Finally been out and tested her for the first time since the H&S w/decat (was 108Db @ normal (4k) revs and 116peak before the decat). Pretty good results - post your own test results here (with proof if available).

From the cabin on the passenger seat, taken with windows down during an acceleration blast in 2nd gear

Half metre, 45 degree angle @ 4,000 rpm

Half metre, 45 degree angle, peak revs

Next up I'll have to try and hit the 130Db peak

Though the image has been deleted I took a reading of 130.3 dB from byff's Cerbera at PF'03

I had the same idea mate. Windows down, Db meter up sitting close enough to get the full noise but shielded from the wind, which would produce biased results, set it to pick up the peak noise and then floor it.

Took her slowly up to 4,000 then one quick blip on the throttle to see her belt up to 7,000 for a few brief milliseconds before bringing her back down again. Maybe she would have hit 130+ if I'd sat with her at 7,000 for a couple of seconds. Don't know. Maybe thats a test for another day.

Not at this point matey. The bastards still have 4 months to issue a summons though.

Having said that, I ran into a bloke I knew from years back earlier on tonight (cop pen pusher) and he has confirmed my suspicions - They have nowt on me. Anyway, I've got the DbMeter till the 13th of next month. I'll let you know if I manage to break 130Db by elongated revs at said peak - I just don't want to f**k the engine

My old Chim 500 hit 133db on a number of occasions, many have commented on how loud it was

Not sure why you'd want to. scratchchin

People on the streets think 'wa**er' and you can't take the car on a single race track in the UK!

Strikes me this obsession with 'how loud you can make you exhaust' is very, MaxPower, there is nothing wrong with a good, loud TVR. Hell, they're all meant to be noisy, and I quote my MoT inspector there. But you can have too much of a good thing!

Not Maxpower at all sir. Maxpower - how much exhaust resonance can you get from a 1.2? TVR - how much of the noise that the engine makes can you actually get to pass unhindered through the pipes? I can't stand the noise a 'maxpowerwagon' makes as it is all resonance. However I like the TVR being noisy as it sounds like it's connected to an engine.

I don't get any negative public reaction either
... and I can get silencers for track day.

Each to their own though. Some like noise, some don't!

Those nasty men at the Nurgurgring last weekend claimed I was 116db at 3000 rpm (in fact I was a touch under that as trying to feather it as much as poss), not sure where they were holding the meter as the readings for everyone they tested seemed high so probably right up close - Keithyboys was funny, they asked him for 4000 and he gave them about 1800 max and still he got a 108 rofl

Mines going to come off soon though in favour of an SP exhaust I think - they sound superb and no less awesome just because on a meter they come up quieter. Had my fun with being proper loud but now finding mine a bit drony on a long run, cruising at say 110-130 in Germany was hard work, also don't want to go through the same hassle when I go back to the ring and fancy doing some track stuff this year.

Loud enough to get a thumbs up from a gang of motorcyclists out for a blatt on the A3. That'll do for me, Sir!!

Ben

I bet if you stick the Db meter into your ear then it would still read 87Db from the tinnitus you must have

If you look on the HSE website one of the first signs of being exposed to excessive noise is you'll have problems hearing your 'T,D,S'.. shout ears

Not if you want to keep it for a bit longer mate. thumbup

I'd happily be a passenger in the Dartford tunnel to hold the meter for you....

I've heard that my old Cerb has since been quietened down again. The new/old owner was getting complaints from the neighbours and has replaced the cats.

In a way I'm glad, 130+ dB is extremely loud and while it was good while I had it, I don't think I would do it again.

Funny that as FUBAR tested mine with his db meter in the car park at a metre/45 degrees and at a genuine 4000 rpm and got 104 or thereabouts I'm sure the german gate marshall just stuffed it right up my pipe. yikes hehe
