Yes,

Well sorted late Chimaera

(But, depending on miles you'll need a fund for maintenance & gas)

From experience, budget £2k a year for maintanence costs and you won't go wrong. How many miles a year do you drive, and is it short commutes? Will the car live in a garage or on the street?

i have a garage but the jet ski lives there at the mo so it may spend some time on the drive , is that not good ? will be mostly short runs , 5 miles or so to work then play at the weekends

I use mine everyday its the best way to get around you need to spend a bit more time looking after it than a normal car but if you look after it it will look after you. Do it you can always sell it if you don't like it.

General concensus of opinion is - yes - drive it!

I've had my T350C since Feb, done 4,500 miles up and down country, no problems so far!!
Servicing a bit more expensive than your Euro-Wagon, but it's all about smiles/mile, not pence (for me anyway!). Mine sits on the drive, all weathers, starts first time, and gets warmed up by driving it considerately for first 15mins. About 75% of my mileage is motorways.

20K will get you an 03-plate T350C in current market I think - check the classifieds on here. 15K perhaps you're looking at slightly older Tuscans, Cerberas, Griffiths, Chimeras

Don't get put off by the 'ooohh, they're so unreliable' threads - some are, some aren't. If it's a Speed6 engined car, try to get 03-onwards, but always, always try to verify service history and owner's attitude to driving, warming up, etc. etc., and as I always say (but don't actually do!!) buy with your head not your heart!!

Hope this helps.

I've got a Chimaera 500 and a Cerbera 4.5. I think your best bet is to go for somthing like a late Chimeara you will get somthing really nice for £15000.

I've got a 97 Chimera 400 which I use as my everyday car.

So far I've not had any problems and she's great fun especially in this fantastic weather.

Then again, it's only been a week since I bought it so will keep you posted!

Do it!

Been through the same process in past couple of months, did loads of research and was considering several cars (Porsche Boxster, Lotus Elise, Honda S2000 etc), but none compared with the noise of a TVR! - So to save you a lot of time, if you can aford the petrol, 6000 mile service and budget for a couple of things to need doing during the year - buy a good late Chimaera. Comfortable, practical, big boot, lots of fun.

Anything you need to know will soon be answered after posting a question in the relevant PH section.

I use Chimaera 450 as an everyday car, and never had a problem! (only got car on Sat pm though! and done 300 miles already! )

The grin i have had on my face for the last 3 days makes me sure I made the right choice!

Have you driven one yet? If not, get down to your local dealer and get out in one. Not sure where you are based, but 1st garage i visited was Fernhursts and they were fantasic! - Really helpful, took out a couple of Chims and a Cerbera to compare. In the end bought mine privately, but they as well as London TVR and Castle were all really helpful.

do it do it do it! - You know it makes sense!

Yes

I've used both a chim and a wedge as an everyday car - done big miles in both. No problems

Buy a nice Chim for that money

Not really you will have to seal the roof twice a year only takes 20 mins to do. I would say they will need you to spend some time on now and then just doing little jobs.

Well mine has been a daily driver, then i bought a hack for other reasons and it got used half the week.. Now its a daily driver again.
You have to be prepared to fettle a little and give it a little attention but i find with the Chim, the more you use her the happier she is.. (i wish all Women were like that.. )

On what one to buy it depends on risk / ultimate performance.
If you want the safest bet then a late Chimaera or last Griff would be the best bet as the Rover V8 is very forgiving and pretty simple. Plus everyone and their dog knows how to look after them.(well used to. but there are alot of people in the know around)

Tuscans & Cerbs etc are ace cars and ultimately don't have to be unreliable but you have to atleast be aware that the engine is more specialised with less people able to maintain them and hence, IF you have a problem generally it'll cost more to put right.
However they are mega fast.

As i say i have a Chim at the moment and would really fancy a dabble with a Tuscan but i have to be practical and i dont have enough spare cash to keep in the bank for peace of mind in the event of a rainy day..

Getting back to the original question, Every Day car? Definitely

Yes, I have used all of my 11 TVRs daily. Chims and Griffs are the best bet, Cerbs make fine daily drives and great for long distances but the servicing gets expensive, in my experiance the only Tiv I had that wasnt up to the job was my Tuscan S, from new it just seemed to suffer so much wear in 4.5K miles over 9 months, particylarly the chassis and the paint. Get at RV8 car and drive it, IMHO the worst thing you can do is just get them out at weekends.
