Yellow Chimaera 400 '97 P - to be auctioned TOMORROW (10/5/03) in Aylesbury :

Looks like `lightish` frontal damage - ideal for someone who wants one for a headlight conversion

I imagine that's quite a big job to put right - new front end, possible engine damage?
Quite agree, Also look at the two edges of the boot near the rear window, why are this now white?? as if shock through the body pushing it against the boot has caused the paint to come off. would cause questions to the condition of the body with roof down, doors open, etc.
little damage around rear arse aswell.
Not sure myself about the lip below/along the front window?? is it meant to look that un parallel.
But as allways hard to say if it would be worth doing at the right price without seeing it in the flesh.

and?
not quite sure why you are so
about cat D write off. IIRC Cat D simply means cost of repair> pre-accident value minus salvage. ie £6,000 to repair or
pay out £12,000 to owner and sell salvage for £8,000 = £4,000.
Why is Cat D such a problem? Alot of cars have a small knock at some stage, but their pre-accident value determines whether it is Cat D or not.

I have a cat d car no problems with it, big eal that that the pasengers door, front wing and windscreen needed to be replaced, there was no chasis damage, no damage to other body pannels etc. a small amount of money and some elbow grease car is now as good as new, the insurnace company were more than happy to tell me what ha happened to the car so I knew why they had classed it as a cat D. Reactions like oh new engine, new body, new chasis etc. are bourne out of a lack of knowledge, sorry chaps but if you knew what all the cats meant then you'd know not to over react when you see cat D. Yeah I know that this is not for everyone but hey lets not slate what is not understood...

my sentiments exactly.
How can u tell if its a good buy with only seeing pictures.
The Cat D thing wouldnt bother me but it confuses me how u can tell a metal bar hasnt gone straight down the midddle of the car bending and braking/bending allsorts of and chassis parts.
Mine was still running with hardly anything left of the front nose/rad etc.
I think a new nose cone you are looking at 2.5k without the labour and paint.
BUTI'd say a 97P ranges from 17-19k so i imagine it was written off as there was more than 13k's worth of repairs using TVR Blackpool new parts and dealer labour.
So if u can get for 7-8k then and it is just superfical damage then yeah it could be a good little project.Which i hope some one does as i would like to see all TVRs kept on the road.
