This same subject used to come up all the time a few years back in Sprint. It would appear that Mobil 1 is much cheaper than the UK just about everywhere and the only thing stopping people from buying it is that it seems too good to be true. The big question has always been "Is it the same stuff as in the UK?". Mobil won't be drawn on the subject and their reply is something on the lines that they can sell a product with the same name in different countries and it doesn't neccessarily mean it's the same spec. This then raises the fear that you might be putting oil in your high performance engine which is not up to the job. Most people suspect that it is exactly the same stuff and for obvious reasons they don't want us all stocking up our supplies when we go to Europe or the States. Result? We carry on buying it here at £35 a can!

I heard TVR (when last in existence) didn't recommend Mobil 1 anymore... I don't know if this was because they lost a kickback, but there is plenty of other stuff out there.

Just remember that generally you get what you pay for..

cheers

I think realistically we need to consider two points

a) Mobil will not be refining two differet products for sale in two different places. Why would they?
b) I cannot imagine Mobil selling an inferior product in America to the UK. Otherwise if someone has a Ferrari or Lambo etc in the US would they be instructed to source the oil for their car in Europe and not in the US?? I think not!

It is well known suppliers will market their products at whatever price they think they can get away with.. Just look at the CD / DVD scandal of recent years.
Even ITunes were (maybe still are) cheaper in Europe than the UK..

I have seem parts for my boat for thes same number of dollars (or less!!) in the US as it is £ in the UK. i.e. $90 in US.. £90 in the UK.

At the end of the day it just boils down to the fact the UK is just bloody expensive!!

Just to balance things a touch tho that i have seen they do a Mobil 1 10-30 in the US which i personally havent seen over here..

I love the US for this - you can buy the big bottles of RainX there for $3.50 a bottle.
