I have got hold of a set of Granada Cosworth calipers and carriers with a view to running 283mm discs. I have ordered a set of EBC dimpled discs from Kev at Proven Products in Tavistock today www.proven-products.co.uk/ who without question did the best deal on the spot but the question is what pad to run with it??

Options...

Mintex 1144
Mintex 1155
Ferodo DS2500
EBC Red
EBC Yellow

The car isn't used everyday it's just a toy so warm up isn't much of an issue, all comments welcomed.

Out of that lot, I'd pick DS2500 every time.

Hi Corin

I have the AP 4 pots on drilled disks the Chimaera. I have had four versions on there

Ferodo DS2500 were by far my favourite though they are expensive

Mintex 1144's tended to glaze when used on the track and subsequently squealed badly

Mintex Extreme were fabulous with an amazing initial bite but squealed when hot

Mintex 1155's are on the car now. Best heavy use pad I've used. They do smell a little. They are made using an unusual bonding agent. They also have a higher metal content so will wear the disk quicker. By the way 1155's are not road legal

If money was no object I'd fit DS2500's every time

I'm running DS2500's on the front and ebc green stuff on the rear with grooved disks. Seems to work very well for me after having various other makes disintigrate on me in the past.

EBC red very effective - good from cold - better with heat

Used yellows on Integra type R - not for the TVR as track biased - reds will do fine (although they do 2 versions of yellow now)

The EBC Reds are night and day better than the EBC Greens. Well impressed on the Tuscan.

Then check out your brake pad options ... Not a great deal for the later eared type. I used AP's own and they are superb.

In the S with big disks I ran Pagid pads, an found those to be superb.

Although Ferodo come very highly recommmended from several friends.

My experience of EBC seems unusual, in that I thought they were sh*te on my S. I wouldn't ue them again.

I tried Green EBC and they were very poor in comparison to the Ferodo i had been using. Put on Red EBC and one of them delaminated. Word is these are bike grade compounds and could therefore be working at their limit when stopping a car. I tend to refrain from commenting on EBC here because there's a mass of PHers who defend them to the end. Mintex 1144, 1155 and Xtreme are all good pads but they can squeal badly at very low speeds on my drilled disks. Ferodo DS2500 are the pads for me, can't fault them.

There was a debate on here ages ago about how EBC were really good because there was so little brake dust .... I've got a mate who now runs DS2500, but was running DS3000 and the only reason he gave them up was the squeaking. If it rained there were pools of rust on his wheels where the heavy metal content of the pads rusted He still maintains they are the best pads he has ever used.

It seems apparent to me that if you have little brake dust, they are too hard for the application or you just never brake that hard, in which case why are you using EBC instead of a more road compound.

In fairness, my dad uses them in his 4.5 Chimaera and likes them ... .. . . . Green Stuff, as that's what his garage put in there for him ...

The difficulty I have is that I have the AP 4 pots, later eared type on the Griffith, as in the picture, and unless Ferodo are now doing DS2500 for them, which I wasn't aware off, you can only get SBS or AP.

In fairness, I am fairly hard on brakes, and the AP pads are awesome, but you could put 2 bits of pig iron in these calipers and they'd still out perform most !

If I were on standard calipers again I would be running Ferodo or Pagid if I could get them, again though, Pagid are exensive....

Dust - little on greens - loads on my reds ! I guess its horses for courses, I have found both Mintex and Pagid useless on a number of HP cars.
Recommendations will always vary dependant on several factors incl driving styles/ uses/ running-in depending on experiences. Its good to have a choice. Have fun

Got some AP pads from Hans to which should do me for a while smile

re the EBC ones why let one experience put you off? I have been happy with them, maybe they have improved after people moaning about them
