My griff in formula red came with grey dash top and grey roof

The grey roof has faded somewhat so i decided to renovo it using renovo products and the black dye as i decided black would cover a multitude of sins whilst doing the job

One bottle later and it is patchy as hell and im wearing the old wish i hadnt started cap for the weekend !

I dont want to change the lid as it fits brilliantly and has never leaked and goes on easily

Any ideas on a good waterproof dye ???/ or other solution welcome

cheers

Ty

I'm looking at getting some of the interior of my Cerbera re-trimmed and I asked the coachtrimmer about doing my headliner and he said that, unless I take out my glass, it'll have to stay as it is.

When I suggested dying it, he immediately said NO as it NEVER works out.

Now you've started with dye, I suspect the only possible way to a good result is to continue.

Either buy some more Renovo Dye or I believe BMW & Saab dealers sell a similar product.

I'm convinced that Renovo is simply Shoe Dye anyway, but buying as Renovo is cheaper.

I've used Renovo on many occasions but never suffered patchy or blotchy finishes.

It washes off though. Considered scrubbing it and starting again?

Probably a daft question but how many coats have you put on? - I had to put three on to get a satisfactory finish in the end.

Could there have been any type of sealant or water proofing on there before that may affect the result?

Good luck any way.

I bought RENOVO last year and put 3 coats on, then I used the water proof kit that comes with the pack.

I think the problem is that Renovo is supposed to be used to RENOVate (faded) black tops - not recolour grey ones. I suspect you're now committed to recolouring it using some sort of fabric paint - unless anyone has successfully recoloured a non-orginally black top with it and can tell you how.

This sounds like a possible cause.
Renovo make a shampoo. If you haven't cleaned it thoroughly with a shampoo before dyeing it, it's got to be worth a try before applying further coats of dye IMO.

Thanks all

I have shampooed the roof twice ( exterior not interior ) then hopefully the waterproofing will bugger off !

Yes it is a renovation project and i am trying to alter the colour hence it probably not working as hoped ( i never id read instruction manuals )

Hence the thread !

I have used one bottle which i think gave me four coats lol and very black fingers

I guess its another bottle to really try and get it to go over to black then off to the saab dealer next if no joy :-(

Shoe polish hmmm i wonder if the bloke in the station is free for a few hours .........

Thanks again all and ill keep trying
