Oh the shame of it......

Well I knew my leather had been hammered recently with a Ring trip and also various mechanics in and out sorting things here and there, and of course me just generally being a dirty lazy bastard and having not touched the inside for ages despite the car being used for ferrying kids etc etc... So today I thought I should embark upon a substantial clean of the interior.
Now as I say I knew it was dirty but I didn't realise it was THIS dirty:

What did you need to use to scrape the crap off then?
I actually used one of those magic eraser sponge things..truly amazing. I think the car has worn a decent layer of grime ever since I have had it, I did try a few leather cleaners soon after purchase which brought it up quite nice but then I never REALLY knew what I was aiming for - I do think this is way cleaner and brighter than I have ever known it during my ownership. Just got a hell of a job ahead of me now as there is no half measures, think I may already be thinking I wish I had never started ... ignorance is bliss and all that

Magic eraser sponge what thingy? I'm worried now that maybe my interior isn't grey at all....
One of thesehttp://www.jmldirect.com/product.php?cid=5&pid...
You can get them in Woolies (or just order online). You get a sort of flat sheet of it, cut off a strip and then moisten and scrub. I also then had a clean cloth handy to wipe away the mucky water that then sort of eminates after scrubbing or is just seaps back in. The "sponge" itself (it's more like a bendy polystyrene) breaks up and disintegrates as you use it, I have bought one block but may find I need another before I have done the whole car as you get through it pretty quick, but then mine was probably dirtier than most

My wife had used one before, great if you have kids for getting crayon marks off walls etc. The ones we had before were made by someone else and used to be only available in much smaller sticks and were about £5 a go (which was absurd when they ran out so quickly) - then I guess JML copied it and made it bigger (much) and cheaper
I have no real idea if it will damage the leather but doesn't appear to have done so far, I will be giving it all a good nourish when I am done anyway.
Just use water and soap flakes (not detergent), and a soft cloth- microfibre's good- and then rinse with a clean damp cloth. Cheaper than proprietary cleaners, does the job and you can hand wash yer cardi with what's left! That was info given to me by the guy I bought the leather from at Muirheads, so I've not made it up, honest. (apart from the cardi bit)
eta- yer a mucky pup, by the way!!
