Resealing sump on RV8 - what to use?
Discussion
recently did mine - slight weep but very annoying, used a standard rover cork gasket with a smear of silicone sealer both sides , no drips so far but job only done 2 months ago.Found a few bits of 'old' silicone stuck inside pump suction strainer , worth checking when you have the sump off.

Didnt Dulford have your sump down a few weeks ago?
Yes they did and I'm sure the job they did was 'Bob on' however these things happen, I spoke to Rich and he was more than happy to have a look at it but to take the car up just for that is a lot of grief. If it was coupled in with something else then fine but my new assistant started yesterday and with training him and clearing things up time is short. I'm happy to ditch the new oil etc and reseal the sump myself, I tweaked the sump bolts the other day and they went up a smidge but it's still leaking. I also noticed that one of the front bolts is turning in it's aperture (not where it's leaking from) so I'm going to helicoil it at the same time if the thread is irrecoverable.Hylomar+gasket??
Trouble is with silicon sealer and cork is when you tighten it the gasket shifts & squeezes out the joint face even with moderate nipping they dont work well together in my opinion(unless you let to totally cure before nipping up),Hylomar as mentioned is good apply wait till its tacky then nip up,i also rate Wellseal used in the same way but can be hard to get

For me something of all of the above: bond the gasket to the sump pan with a setting sealant (silicone or whatever) and use a non-setting sealant (Hylomar) between the gasket and block. The sump bolts do have a tendency to loosen as the miles go by, possibly caused by a new gasket loosing its elasticity. Some decent spring washers under the bolt heads would be better than a blob of 'threadlock' here so they can be nipped-up to compensate.

better job than any gasket, has to be totally oil free surface though.
