Hi All,

Just wondered if anybody had instructions or pics of how to do this, especially of how the rear silencer looks when split and cherrybomb fitted.

I'm quite far from Offords so thinking of getting them to deliver and a local mechanic to sort it out.

Also - have you seen the price difference between ACT and Offords cherrybombs !!!!!

same on all cars - drop the exhaust - cut open the silencer box with grinder - peel back the flaps and cutout the perforated tune, replace with same size non perforated and weld the flaps back up and refit. And dealers / indies charge 250 quid for this!!wink

Cheers!

I just spoke to Austec - the car is there at the moment - they said I had to order to Cherrybombs of ACT, I asked about sleeving them and they said they did not do it??

Should also add that looking at ACT's you get the full back system, not just the Cherrybombs for £400.

Why the heck do you want Cherry bombs - you want it louder?

There is just one silence box in the middle to do - do you just want large pipes at the back?

You can remove the centr box and just have the cherry bombs at the back but you may as well through the rest of the crap original system away. This is waht I have (well sort of but for the Chev) in SS (just 1800 quidwink).

erm - not sure?

Spoke to Offords who said that the cherrybomb actually goes inside the silencer. They said it replaces the perforated pipe and that they also remove the packing....sound right?

This works on removable cans such as Tuscans etc.
Measure the INSIDE diameter of the perforated pipe in your end can, buy stainless non perforated pipe of the same diameter BUT ON THE OUTSIDE and of about 1mm thick. Take your can off, Cut the new pipe so the length is slightly longer than the length of the perforations in the can, get a mallet and and lump of wood, rest your can endways on the lump of wood, hit the new pipe into the perforated pipe until its all the way in and all the perforated holes are covered. Your old exhaust clamps may be shagged, so buy new exhaust clamps from a TVR dealer at £5 each as any old exhaust clamps dont do the job as good, and put them back on. Voila!
I'm sure T66Ora will be along to confirm this is about right?

These people talk garbage, a cherry bomb is not a piece of pipe in place of the perforated part - Muppets.

You can easily do something like mine - drop the system, cut the centre section out replace with straight through (but have lugs off of this section to bolt to the 4 or 6 mounting points on the chassis and go to any good exhaust place and they will cut the right amount of the end of the system (chim or griff) and replace with a cherry Bomb (mine are cool slash cut jobs).

Braders - when you are round Esher way drop me a line. (Not for a week or so though).

Not really - events for me mean racing. TVR (the Chim) is just for bombing about in local(do the odd Surrey pub meet or ACE Rods meet). I love Rockingham (but the championship I race with has not been there for years! Not really one for looking at cars just sitting still - prefer going for a blast.wink

This is all very confusing!? If they are not putting a cherry bomb in the silencer then what are they doing?

They are doing exactly what I am saying cutting out the perforated tubes in the silence and replacing with unperforated tube.

I can't see them cutting out the centre box - with it mounting to the chassis plate and inserting two real cherry boms in here and attaching them ridgidly to the chassis on the same lugs. Cherry Bombs are normall at the very end of a system.

This is normally what you call a Cherry Bomb - http://www.supremeperformance.com/DisplayTab.aspx?... - but you can have them in fancy SS with cool slash cuts.

Normal procedure on Griffs / chims is as I discribed - it will not be anything else for 140 - 250 quid.

Yep, I see your point, I thought it was very cheep. I had imagined that they had some particularly good looking (i.e. cheep) cherrybombs and as such hid them away in the silencer.

Has anybody actually SEEN what constitutes Offords Cherrybomb offering?

ahem - shhhhhhhh!

Not updated my profile yet - sold the Elise about 6 months ago. Just bought a Griff. I miss the Elise though - spent a fortune on Nitrons, bushing, brakes, Emerald and TB's and tracked it to death! But life was just not complete without the sound of a V8 lol.

RJBEN I have only seen ACT Cherry system, that as two cherrys in place of the single silencer, maybe offords are just doing what jellison said and charging for cherrys,
i have had this done to my car but with no Cats its very loud hence thinking of the ACT system

I had them done with the cats in place on my last two and damn loud.

With the main dustbin cat out it would be a bit much for frequent use (as my mate Topsparks showed with his 370bhp 5.5 no cat and straight throughs - NASCAR.

Elise or Griff - Tough one. I like the big fat lump up front easier to push it at the limit more of the time and yes the throbber helpswink
