I got pulled the other day for speeding.

To be fair, he had me bang to rights, but just gave me a little slow it down mate chat.

Top policing IMO.

I do appreciate the police have a job to do regarding safty on our highways & byways and we are much safer for their presence.
Having said that I wish Police Officers would be a little less agressive on first contact not everybody is a wanton criminal.
Officers I do know have to make a quick on the spot judgement of any and all situations and most do get it right.

I have been pulled 11 times over the years for the most bizarre reasons, and I have always had a clean license.Never once was I pulled for actually doing something wrong, and the classic first question to ask immediatly (I learned that one after the 1st couple oftimes) is 'Why have you pulled me over officer?'

The wierd answers have been:

'This car is stollen' (this has happened twice!) Turned out that police databases were localised, and guess what - cars travel about a bit (!)

'What is the speed of the road you were just on' I replied '60', he asked 'why I was going 40', i said 'because you were behind me'. he was goign to breathalize me until he noticed the (friendly) dog in the car.

'Are you a student?", I said 'Yes' he said 'Off you go then'. that was on the A1m at night, quite scarry pulling off in the dark between dips.

'I did not recgonise you', this one got me as she was a stunner, but i still have no idea why I was pulled over....

And the final was by far the worst experience, as all the previous times that cops were polite and they were jsut doing their 'thing', but on the M4 in Berkshire a real tit of a cop pulled me over in an unmarked car during rush hour, I asked the question 'Why did you pull me over', he asked 'where do i start?'. i was swiftly taken intot the car 'too see my disgraseful driving on video'. Basically whiolst playign the tape he rattled off a lot of very serious driving offences, which included dangerious riving, lane encroching, cutting up other drivers and speeding (these are the ones that I emeber, quite nerve racking). The obvious thing was that he was rattling off the offences that he was doing as he was charging up the motwrway to pull me ove, he started off from a slip road at 30, and was beside me within 1/2 a mile. He was treating me like a c*ut, all i simply said was that I don't think that the video supported this, and he offereed me points or a trip[ to court for all the offences. i said see you in court. I never heard anything after that.

I was mildy annoyed by the cops until then, but they do have to pull people every now and again so that is OK, but the last one has really lost my confidence in the traffic police.

but, you must compare this to dealign with poilce for other matters, been robbed once a year every year I have lived in London, don't get me started how useless the cops are when tackling that subject !

Pulled for the first time in 14 yrs about a month ago in blackpool with a ladyfriend in the car. Excuse was that he wondered if Id been drinking. Considering he had been behind me for the previous mile (during which I had seen him as soon as he pulled out) and I was

A/ driving at 28 mph in a 30 mph limit (before and after he started to tail me)
B/ in a straight line with no weaving
C/signalling well in advance of any turning or manouvere.

I found the reason given pure horseshit.

One thing I cant stand is lies, and being ex plod -I expect at least the truth from the police -which this clearly was not.

I haven't been stopped, but the BiB who work the A2 south of the river were extremely helpful when I wrote off my Porsche.

I think that a lot of their attitude depends on yours.

I was pulled by a policeman for driving too carefully.

I was in my old capri with it's grunty race engine and it had just finished raining. As I came out of the hotel whose gym I used, there were two police cars at the lights so I kept to the speed limit.

In hindsight I think it's because he thought I was drinking but it was quite funny as he followed me to the local shops where I got an orange juice then pulled me as I returned to the car.

Me: "Evening officer whats the problem - I wasn't speeding"
At which point he launched into a tirade of swear words about how he hadn't f-ing accussed me of f-ing anything - etc.

I was a little shocked and calmed the officer down after which he apologised havign said he was just returning from a nasty domestic.

He was then asking me questions such as name and address just as the PNC check came back over the radio.

Radio "The car is registered to a Mr X of address"
Copper: "So what's your name"
Me: "Erm the same as I just heard over the radio?"
Copper: "So why were you driving so carefully"
Me: "Well officer - it's wet, two police cars behind me and I have a well known tail happy car"

I then went into enthusiast mode and bored the pants off him about it until he gave me a producer and let me go.

When I turned up at the police station 30 mins later the cheerful old desk sgt took one look at my docs and said "We used to have those as chase cars - I'd have been driving carefully too in the rain".

So - Realistically I'm all for traffic/patrol officers. I'd also like to see real policemen as it seems these days 30-50% of the police staff are civilian, and an officer is lucky if he spends 60% of the day out of the police station away from paperwork. At least with a copper you've a chance of a discussion. With a camera and their self righteous, bullying staff and procedures you've no chance.

On the couple of times I've been pulled over it was just a check as my reg no is unusual, so fair play to them. I was also leaving a 30mph zone and had reached 38mph still inside the zone, when I spotted the guy at the side of the road with the gun in his hand, he waved me on but with the slow down signal, no talking to etc just made me think twice in future.
In my opinion if someone treats you like a p..ck at the outset, you immediately loose respect for them.

Best regards,

James Sim.

Bit of a sweeping statement to say that police officers in general are corks*. However, there is always a percentage of people in any profession who go a little bit beyond being 'normal, like us'.

On a recent holiday we met a couple. He was, or is, a police officer. He clearly worked out a lot. His physique was built up of having a very large, pumped up chest and bulging, muscular arms, all resting on a pair of rather thin, disproportionate legs. He walked - and looked - like Action Man.
Personality? Hmmm. Struggled big time to talk about anything other than being "in the force" and how some crims are referred to as, "slags". He even went on to say the 'n' word when making a reference to afro-caribbean people as, "there are black people and there are n*****s".

I'd say that this guy (who I'll call Rob to keep him anonymous) wasn't a bad bloke; but he did look and sound like a copper. Lives and breathes being a BiB? Either way, he clearly had some personal challenges which may have included having difficulty disassociating from his job when he isn't working... given the nature of his profession I can see how it might present a few problems. But I do think that some of Rob's attitude / demeanour comes from being influenced by strong opinion only found in groups... if you know what I mean.

My point is to illustrate that yes, in reference to the OP, a police officer can be a "c**ck" but it is a bit unfair to say they all are.

Not exactly stopped but...

1/ Got a ticket for 92 in a 70 around midnight on an clear dual carriageway, fair enough. Bit of an issue with a camera the size of a shoebox on a small tripod by the side of the road, no lights, reflective jackets, etc just a couple of blokes in a Astra van parked in some bushes around the corner. No attempt at a visual deterrent and I am sure they would be the first people round if I hid in a bush taking pictures of people driving passed.

2/ Just received a 141 pound fine for out of date tax disk, which I had been unable to renew that morning. Again, a fair cop except for they had a look at my documents (MOT, Insurance) and basically said fair enough when I explained what happened, no mention of writing it up. 10 days later the fine letter drops through the door.....

With both the above I am "happy" to admit to being in the wrong and pay any dues, it is just the the underhand way in which the law was enforced.

Now what would my answer be to that question.........

should elaborate a bit on earlier contribution (lol)

(i) the worse are the newly qualified/cadet/trainers/special constables or whatever they call them - i.e. new in the position and enjoying the job a little too much if you see what I mean. one of these cocksuckers is bad enough but got three of them on my case a few years back. No spirited driving on my part, and all documents etc everything was in order. They pull me, and start the standard speel,

where have you come from?
me...from my club, on way home....why have you pulled me?
no reply to the question, straight into have you been drinking?
before I could answer
another says you smell strongly of alcohol?
the third chips in "is this your car...."
not having touched a drop all day (and also benefiting from being a teetotalleer) you can imagine my irritation at these several lines of enquiry.
Having denied having had any drink, like a pack of wolves they are at it again!
"how many cigarettes have you smoked?" - why i ask....because drink drivers smoke to mask their drinking.
"is that aftershave i can smell" - why i ask? ...because drink drivers use a lot to mask their drinking.
..........and so it went on for 5 mins or so, I was getting the whole ing training book regurgitated verbatim.

Just when i thought I was in the twilight zone or somehow volunteered to be a training volunteer or something equally stupid, off they the three of them doddled off....no apologies, no breath test, no producer, nothing...absolute koccks

other than that, some can be quite ok and respect the usual courtesies when they pull you over.....but jobworthy, new in job, wet behind the ears all = bad news for anyone coming their way!!!
