in the blackpool gazette tonight will riley is starting up production of cars in blackpool, this has got to be good news for ex-tvr employees and for the town of blackpool...
I hope that he weeds out the tossers that were instilled at TVR through being up-some-ones-backside. Unfortunately I cant see him employing more than a handful of ex-employees and some of the ones that are still not working were not upto much anyhow.

Is that new news IYSWIM? Or is it just a re-hash of the previous news about someone who's name is the same as someone who made cars a really long time ago is going to produce a car that he hasn't got rights to, in a place that he hasn't got a factory on and if he were to get the rights to produce said car, the last two manufacturers who tried, failed to sell more than an odd few?Bert

Nanjing Automobile Corporation, the owner of MG, has signed a deal with HFI Ltd, owner of the historic Healey brand name.
The two companies are, according to the statement released: 'Delighted to announce their intention to collaborate with each other on the future development of the MG, Healey and Austin Healey brands and sports cars bearing their name.' It added: 'This agreement puts an end to long-standing issues about ownership of the brands and trademarks, and expands opportunities for joint trade between the companies.'

HFI, an Anglo-American consortium, purchased the rights to the MG and Healey brand name along with Healey Automobile Consultants (HAC) for $2m in January. The Healey family retain a stake in the firm, and the right to veto the use of the Healey name.

Where is he going to get the engines from if the above is fact how can he develope the MG ??

For a start BMW , for some reason, still own the Riley name so no problem there re the chinese and I think (could be wrong, very likely am) the X-Power stuff wasn't included in the sale.
Probably 'cos they didn't want it.

As a citizen of Blackpool, IMHO it is good news that a deal on land and the temporary use of the factory have been put in place. I am hopeful that some of the talented ex factory workers can find employment. I'm not convinced on the models they plan to be produce. Is it possible to make as big a mess of producing cars as NS & cronies did? I too hope they are wise about their staffing choices. For now I'm cautiously optimistic.........
Yep, it is great news if anything actually happens and anyone wants to buy the cars produced. Sadly though it still looks a huge longshot. The SV is just not going to turn peoples' heads in today's market.Bert
I would assume that when BMW bought Rover, that the Rover company 'owned' all the old names held by what was, British Leyland.
They probably felt that whilst selling River for a Pound may not be a good deal, they could get some future financial benefit from retaining all the others. I read recently that BMW were considering re launching Triumph for example.

It was a shame, I remember seing 4 of these at XK engineering after the Rover thing going T**S up, They were bare bodies unpainted, covered in dust sat in a corner. They are well built, but must admit not the best looking thing ever made. I think if they were to update the front and change those ugly ass wheels it would be ok, but not in the priceband it was in either.
