I bought my TVR 4 weeks ago Saturday from a Fernhurst. Last night I got the V5 back from the DVLA, to my amazement the car has had 6 previous owners.

This shocked me a bit. But I know these cars change hands regulary. Is this an overly high amount?

What shocked me the most was the fact that the last owner had it for 4 years, and before that it had 5 owners in 3 years!

ANd, yes, I know I should of asked how many owners, but I fell in love with the car, I have wanted a TVR for 17 years (since I was 14) and to me this is the one. I love it and the owners don't bother me, just a bit shocked.

Is it OK to post the Reg no as a topic to see if any previous owners are here??

Cheers
Mike

well my p plate has had 5 owners

the original owner
the second owner
I had it registered by the garage i bought it off so they could tax it before i drove it home ( bought it on 3 years and 1 day old!!)
My company was then the registered owner
when new labia buggered the company car tax i re-registered it in my name...

so mine shows 5 but only really had 3 maybe yours is similar...

also you tend to get some people buying them on impulse and then finding they are to fast, to flashy or to expensive so sell them on quick.. buying from a dealer like fernies the car should be fine so i wouldnt worry just enjoy...

re posting reg plate, the only restriction there is do you want people to know that there is a tvr with that plate about...

cheers
Graham

If the last owner kept the car 5 yrs I wouldn't worry too much.
Why not post a descrption of the car and the reg minus 1 didget? I'm sure ex-owners will recognise the car.
Enjoy.

I am enjoying the car more than you could imagine! The number of owners doesn't really bother me, I was just wondering if this was the norm. Man do i love the car

I would like to trace previous owners though, and I know that Fernies is a trusted source, those guys are so helpfull, sent me through a spare key yesterday

I bought my J reg 1992 400SE back in 1998. I was the 6th owner ( in 6 years!)
When I applied for copies of the previous V5's and contacted the previous owners, it turns out that most of them had bought the car in the spring, ran it for the summer, been charged a small fortune for servicing and then sold it back to the dealer / traded in in the Autumn / Winter.
The outcome meant, many owners, and a car that had never seen salt roads or winter frosts as it had spent the winter months in showrooms at dealers.

Mind you, the minus points were that as the car was low mileage, it needed some TLC under the warrenty I had with the car as things stopped working / didnt work due to underuse. 50,000 miles and 5 years later, that certainly isnt the case.

jvaughan, That is what I thought may of happened here, I am the 7th owner and it has 36k on the clock, so it is low mileage, and there are a few little problems, but I intend to keep the car for a few years to get used to TVR driving before moving on to the next one And I am driving anywhere and everywhere at any given chance.

So, it would seem that higher owners are the norm, thought this was the case, just wanted confirmation.
Cheers

Nice one. I origionally had the idea of learning the car and then trading up, but I fell inlove with the shape and the awsome sound. I could never part with my Wedge now. It might have a stablemate though in the next 18 months though.

My 1997 Cerbera has 5 pervious owners. I tried to contact as many as possible prior to purchasing. I managed to track down 2 if I recall...

The explaination I was given that it was most likely registered a few times by garages that had them on the forecourt for a while.

All the same, it doesn't bother me as a I have a decent car with 25K miles on the clock with a known history.

I'd say the same - if the last owner had it for that long, then there's probably nothing to be concerned about.

It also depends what the actual history is - I only kept my last car (Chimaera) for 7 months, because I wanted to trade up. The previous owner sold it to trade up to a better house. If the previous owners are still TVR owners or car club members you're probably relatively safe even if they didn't keep it long.

ohidunno - I got a Copper Green 4L Chimaera, with Magnolia leather, I absolutely adore it. Did my weekly checks on it last night (oil etc) ready for a weekend of driving doe sit get any better than this?

Fron the amount of stonechips on the front, the car has definately been driven, which is just what I want.

After 17 years to get here (at the ripe old age of 31!) I feel like a kid again. I have parked it in the office car park so that when i sit at my desk I can stare at it. Sad I know.....

i owned a 450 seac years ago it had 6 owners, i could never come to terms with that fact then, however TVR are like ferrari in that respect, many owner cars isn't unusual.

Very easy to trace the previous owners. Contact the DVLA and for a fiver they will post out to you the vehicles history inc. copies of all old v5's etc. I did this for a car with the last few weeks, took about 10 days to come through. All very cheap and easy

My 16 year old wedge has 'only' had seven owners, three of those were TVR dealers and the last owner had it for seven years. The should have cleaned the thing!

Not sad at all! You should count yourself lucky that you can see it from your desk - I have to walk across the office to stare at mine - much too obvious!

Any of those pervious "owners" garages.
IMHO i dont care about number of previous owners (unless its one)I.E i'm talking to the only person who has ever owned the car
Condition IMNO is far more important
