I'm heading down for the FOS today and the weather doesn't look good. TVR Griff is waked and ready to roll but I'm a little worried about getting it stuck in a muddy field so am wondering whether to take the Discovery???

The annoying thing is that we put our 2 and a half year old in nursery today especially so we could take the Griff as we so rarely use it since child arrived so it was supposed to be a romantic day out just like the old days BC (before children)

I'm only heading down from Chertseyb but would welcome views from seaseoned veteransd whether the TVR is a sensible proposition or should I be boring and take the Landie.

Thanks,

Jonathan (PS I'm leaving around 11am)

Lot of rain in last few days, the ground is very soft, parking is in a field. Hmm!

Sorry - I'd take the Disco frown. The last FOS that I went to was in conditions like today and my car was on the TVRCC stand. They let us go up the hill to get 90% of the way there - it still took 20 minutes slithering through the mud to do the final 100 yards or so and I was washing mud of the chassis for weeks afterwards.

Thanks for the advice guys - wife dropping kid off as we speak - does anyone know if we arrive around noon if we will end up parked nearer the gates?? (and further from the house)

That could be a deciding factor!

You might end up sitting in more traffic! local travel news this am suggested that the queues & traffic were already very heavy at 8.30am!

Last muddy FOS I went to in the TVR I was in the queue to get in and when we started going downhill on muddy grass I started sliding. I'd left a big gap in front of me, which with hindsight may not have been a good thing in this case as it gives you a chance to get up some speed, and was heading towards the car in front who, rather than getting out of the way by moving forward into his big gap, stopped dead! Fortunately with some judicious cadence braking I managed to slither to a stop without impact but it was bloody scary.

I've been wary of taking the TVR to the FOS when the forecast is rain ever since, I'm afraid. frown

I am taking my Griff on Sunday even if it turns into a monsoon, you'll only regret not taking it IMHO, I am sure lots of people would push you should you get stuck, hopefully they will help me as well!

Well chaps - we got as far as Midhurst and realised with the appalling traffic it just wasn't worthwile - we had to be back to collect the little un from nursery for 5pm so we ended up having a leisurely lunch in a superb pub, then drove around roof down in the Griff all over the South Downs and then blasted back roof down the whole way back.

For what it's worth the weather was dry enough that we didn't have the roof on all day but if I were going I would get up early because the traffic when we hit MIdhurst at 11.45 am was awful.

I really appreciate everyone's advice - I hope those that did persevere had a great time.

Happy driving,

Jonathan

A few spots of rain very early on, then from about 11am its being Glourious Goodwood. Should have taken suncream instead of a brolly smile

Pleasant way to spend a work day all told hehe

FYI: The carparks were soft under foot but dry. No problems getting in and out (but I was in the Quattro smile).

FYI2: I was in carpark 8, which is quite hilly and would be interesting in a TVR in the rain.

Went in from the A27 and parked in Car Park 'A'. Flat dry and fine for the Chim. Only saw one other TVR in the car park (but I didn't undertake a thorough audit!) - it was a yellow Chim (reg A* ***) that looked very good.

Getting out wasn't too bad - took over two hours two years ago!

Weather was fine all afternoon except for a single downpour that lasted about five minutes. Forecast was for rain and thunder - forecasters taking the safe option of threatening the worst so we all feel grateful when they're wrong! Makes planning a nightmare...

I got there about 10.00 in the Chim. Traffic not too bad, and surprisingly lucky with the weather (one five-minute torrential downpour, but otherwise fine all day). The car park was fine, although I could see it getting difficult over the next couple of days.

Another superb day out!bounce

And the Alfa 8C Competizione... woohoolick

Went in the stealth Vectra because of fears of the wet grass. It was actually just fine and would have been OK in our TVR/Porsche.

Glad I used the back routes too - I heard delays on the A roads were terrible.

I parked in carpark 8 and took the cerb, I was looking out for a bright yellow cerb, no wonder I couldn't see it.

had no problems getting in or out, we arrived a bit later but traffic wasn't too bad getting in and was nothing coming out about 1900ish. my only problem coming back to the car park was to see I'd left the sidelights on for over 7hrs, really thought it was gonna be dead but thankfully started straight away..pheww smile

lots of other TVRs in the carpark 8, 2 silver tuscans, red s, griff.

real shame there was no TVR stand frown

I'm here at the moment and just left carpark b in the cerb, had some serious sideways action in about 8 inches of mud, great fun tho! Glad I left early, I think had I have stopped in that mud I never would have got going again.
