I need help with the following-

Been caught speeding in my 30yr old land rover that I use for off-roading and as this is my 2nd offence (1st in my nissan 200sx)have been offered the opportunity to attend a speed awareness course. Do I attend in my V8 land rover covered in mud or my Cerbera?? If I go in the Cerb people will naturally asume I was caught in that and then I'l have to admit it was in a land rover not a Tiv! Which is best?

Have a nice day.

I think you've got to go in the Cerb ..... we had a Griff 500, an S2000 and a tiny Smart FourTwo - guess which the wife got a speeding ticket in .... the Smart biggrin

Just proves faster cars are less likely to result in problems - at least with the law rolleyes

I meant if you get the Cerb all muddy you'll have the best of both worlds and really offend them.

Take the Cerb, you have no choice in the matter.

I think it has to be the cerb really cos with a de-catted exhaust note I generally manage to offend someone most of the time!

I went to one of these, I left the cerb at home due to the distance I had to travel. BUT I dont see why you need to care which car you go in. They dont inspect your cars, the police arent there, you park in a car park, I'd be suprised if anyone attending the course would notice what you arrive in, the people running the course will be in the building ages before you arrive, the cant fail you unless you are very rude etc...

The fact that I had been done for 34MPH . . .
In my time as a police officer, ACPO guidelines suggested a +10% +2mph allowance. Have things changed in the 2 years I've been retired? I got flashed at 57mph in a 50 last year and, in reply to the NIP, stated that this was on the ACPO limit and I was not prosecuted.

The speedometer is allowed to show 30mph with a + or - 10% error. Just 10% is farcical.

Speed awareness course that I attended was only for 34mph people. 35 mph = points. 34 = points or course choice.

Well I got caught at 36mph in a 30, but as I was in my hybird land rover with Rangie diffs and larger tyres my speedo was showing about 20. (no defence I know) A local Traffic officer I know has told me that they wouldnt even look at me till I was doing 41mph. I really havent got a problem with the offence as obviously I was over the limit, but there is no caution or the "human touch" with a camera unit as there would be with a police officer.
The little s*d must have been led on his belly taking the picture of the back of my vehicle by the photo I viewed on-line, how devious!

Obviously doing a burnout in the car park afer the course would be a totally irresponsible thing to do. As would a donhut.

Probably best take the Landie!

I was in charge of a process unit around 10 years ago and, for a speeding prosecution to get past me (or rather my staff) all sorts of things would have to be considered. Time of day, liklihood/presence of pedestrians, amount of traffic, children, weather, visibility, condition of road and, of course, speed. Although it is, no doubt, frowned on, attitude was a consideration as well. One chap used to give a driver about 400 yards to spot him in the mirror and, if they failed to, he would report regardless of other conditions, his logic being that, if you want to go over any limit, you should be paying attention. The guildelines I set were that speeding was exactly the same as littering, failing to produce or any other 'absolute' offence where discretion on the part of the officer is essential. And, despite this, I was considered to be on the harsh side and my staff made it their task to 'mellow' me during my time there.

When I was being trained in 1975 I was told that we serve the public. Nowadays it seems that the police merely service the figures.

Not a dig at working officers, whom I have great admiration for, just their bosses.

My friend has join the police, and she has been told she has to get a % of speeders each week. so if they have not got any that week, then they will do anyone they can to meet there quota.

+10% or -nothing. Speedos are not permitted to under-read. In order to avoid this, the manufacturers nearly always make them over-read.

That's odd. It was felt in my day, supported by the CPS, that if there were quotas then this could be challenged in court. I.e. reasons for the police to lie. Which force does your friend work for?
