What a fricking dumb ass I have been banghead

Prospective buyer comes round to see the car ... loves it ... I back it out the garage and leave the sodding driver's door open ... no comments please as they will pale into insignificance alongside what I called myself censored

The upshot ... not too bad, just a very badly scuffed door card and a small crack at the top of the door return. Just needs mending properly and a proper paint touch up. There is no structural damage and no flexing around the crack (again, no jokes please wink )

Anyone know where I can get a replacement door card? It is black vinyl with pale yellow stitching or, can it be re-covered in matching material.

Also, any suggestions for someone to do it in Yorkshire, Hull/York/Doncaster area.

All suggestions gratefully received as I obviously cannot sell the car until it is done frown

Thanks,
al.

We know a guy in Blackpool who can retrim to match your spec (probably a bit far from you). The door card is made of a flat piece of fibreglass trimmed to shape - it could possibly be re-matted.

confused What, the scuffed curved bit covered in black vinyl is fibreglass? Or am I calling things the wrong name?

If seriously it's a bummer Scott then why the f*ckin laughing smileys? it's not just a mild inconvenience that I can live with until I get time to sort it out ... it's stopped me selling the bloody car.

No you're right, I'm not in the mood for jokes.

Commiserations.

I'd give these a try in Bradford. They replaced my TVR hood about 15 years ago and they also do interiors.

Al, I cant help other than to warn to watch for crazing - its an absolute bastard, everything looks ok until a few days later and it starts appearing. It's easy enough to get sorted and any competant bodyshop will be able to get everything perfect again - just watch out for it. frown

Hope it all gets sorted sharpish so you can get a Rarri 348 again and finally show me what all the fuss is about. wink I still play that tunnel sound clip every now and again - never fails to make me grin! evil

I do feel for ya mate, its one of those things that happens, but it always tends to happen at the wrong time!

I was laughing more at your comments " they will pale into insignificance alongside what I called myself censored "

I know exactly how you feel Al

I respectfully withdraw from this thread

Al, Bummer to hear that You Plonker.

Mine has black stitching( if you can dye the other doors stitching) and probably no help but you welcome to have that until you sort the other if thats any help? Although I am guessing the yellow stitching sets it of nice.

Cheers Si but I won't need a temporary replacment. I just need to get it fixed or replaced, whether it means taking the car somewhere to have it done or not I don't know.

I have two people interested in the car and now this has just put put the kybosh on it fine style. i know I'm in no desparate hurry to sell it, but you know what it's like, once you have made the decision, you just want it sold.

aah, I see. Sorry smile ... shame it's got black stitching or I would have taken you up on your kind offer.

Took sarah out who is interested in buying it and she was reasonably impressed. I say reasonably as she has owned a 500 before so no real surprises ... then I took her Dad out biggrin the second time I give it a boot in 2nd and 3rd, I only got to 4500 revs in third before he says "ok you've convinced me, it's quick!" smile

Likewise Chris - I will give these a call too yes

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys smile

What I could really do with is dropping it off somewhere this week before we go on holiday and picking it up in a couple of weeks time job done ... as I had an offer on the car yesterday, but obviously subject to door repair.

Take out the speaker and then you have to put your hand in to undo the fixing bolts

Should have said there are four 10mm bolts. One in front of the speaker and one just behind the speaker and then two more really awkward to reach ones towards the bottom. When you have undone the four, you have to lift the trim up and un-hook it over the glass.

I haven't ever done this myself so I hope the info makes sense smile
