I have just bought a 350i which has had very little use. The interior is dry but smells a bit musty. Does anyone have a good solution for removing this smell. (Before you suggest it I have been driving with the roof down)
Your thoughts, experiences and ideas would be much appreciated.

The whole interior has been replaced with matching red carpets. I will try removing the floor carpets, however as my clothes smell of it I am sure the rest of the car needs something to shift the smell.

Give the seats a good soaking and polish with a leather cleaner as you may have some dry mold in there.

Vax the carpets for the same reason.

Get a load of leather trimmings, tie them in a bundle and stick them under each seat.

Job done. biggrin

Stu, try Vanish or one of those other carpet cleaners. It might be simply that you've got a minor amount of mould in there which just needs killing. If the carpets will come out easily, run them through the washing mashine on low temp and leave them out to dry until properly bone dry. I'd bet that would kill off the majority of it.

... and seal up that hole in the scuttle under the bonnet. smile

Lovely motor by the way. Sounds really good. thumbup

get a couple of bags of silica gel (I think thats what its called) to keep under your seats to get all the moisture out of the air. I have ordered a couple of bags of ebay to do just this, only costs a couple of squids.

And Vanish for carpets. Used a whole bottle of Vanish when I bought mine and had the roof down as much as possible. Smells went after a fornight.
