Went to see Derek at Absolutelyshocks today and took him up on his current offer of a set of shocks and springs plus a geometry check.

Any difference? Ooooooooh, yes. With just over 40,000 miles on them the originals were knackered. I'd strongly recommend that anyone running on their original suspension have it checked out, mine is vastly improved.

Only one small fly in the ointment. Some of the adjustments had to be delayed until I can get the car back to him as the nuts/bolts/adjusters were seized solid, never been touched by the look of them. Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a geometry check part of the 6,000 and 12,000 mile services? If so perhaps the five dealers who have their stamps in my service book would like to contact me and explain themselves?

Yes it is part of the service, however I bet most of the dealers don't know how to do it anyway!!

Its quite possible they 'check the geometry' by seeing if the tyre wear looks even.
Different matter if you change the shocks and maybe the ride height too. Toe and camber will need setting front and back as it will have changed.

Mine were waaaaayyy out before the new shocks were fitted and surely a ten year old car should have had some adjustment at some time in it's life. Assuming the service schedule has been followed of course rolleyes

Thanks again Derek. It's a different car.

If you are happy now, you will be even happier when I can get a bit of toe in rather than toe out on the back, it will improve traction somewhat.

Its a lottery this malarkey, I never know what I'm going to get on any of these cars and it's usually the rear toe adjusters that seize after a while and I'm very reluctant to get the gas burners on them, I put it down to poor design and lack of maintentance myself.
