Depends how near you need it - the Halfway House, on the A26 between Uckfield and Lewes is the local TVRCC meeting place and I use it a fair bit for lunch when out and about for work.

Harveys bitter, a decent selection of food, a level car park and an outside area for the possible sunny day.

And you can drive through the Cuilfail tunnel in Lewes at some point.

Another vote for the Halfway House. I eat the fairly regularly.

The Dyke's a bit of a hole tbh and usually very busy.

Try the Shepherd and Dog (in Fulking I think) or The Royal Oak. Both on the North side of the downs.

For more family orientated I'd suggest the Sussex Potter in Lancing or the Toby carvery at Lyons Farm, Worthing. Both very good for chain restaurants.

Thats just begging for a FUBAR remark, but I shall refrain hehe

As Matt says, its a bit of a dive, but if you just want to feed the kids with chicken nuggets etc, and want stunning views over the Downs, its OK.

The pub in Fulking is excellent, but not the best for parking anything, let alone a Tiv.

There's The Old Tollgate at Bramber. Fab carvery but you'd probably have to book well in advance on a Sunday.

How about the Black Lion at Patcham (just at the bottom of the A23, where it goes into single lane after the roundabout)? Havent been there for a while but was a decent Harvester type place that's just had a refit.

Further afield there's the Bolney Stage in Bolney (funnily enough) just off the A23, decent food, big car park.

As was said, how close to Brighton do you need to be?

I agree with FUBAR - the Bolney Stage is another good option and has more of a restaurant bias but not inflated prices.

The Black Lion is an option but midweek the service is usually a bit ropey but the price to quality ratio is good. I don't think you get the discounts at the weekend though. The car park access is a bit tight but I haven't tried in the the Chim.

Just a thought - how do equate 'family' and 'TVR friendly' as I thoght they were mutually exclusive.

The Bull in Ditchling is realy good. Plus, if the weather is nice (well we can all hope) you can sit in the beer garden and keep an eye on your car. The car park can be a bit tight though.

Thanks for that, I guess I'll have to go on a pub crawl to try them all.drink
Want to meet up with some friends from Southampton, as we live in Tenterden I thought that somewhere near Brighton would be about half way.

Apart from having to park in a multi storey carpark (done it once in the Cerb, but it was an experience!) you could do worse than meet them at one of the bars/restaurants that overlook Brighton Marina.

Sunny day and cool on, there are worse places to be smile

NB You could always park in the Maccy D's carpark at the Marina and pretend you're going to have a burger...but I didnt say that...roit wink

Forgot about those 2 Nick, both very good.

In the marina if you don't want to risk the Multistorey (it is a complete arse that one as well, very narrow ramps particually the first one down from the top at the Eastern end) then you can park in the ASDA car park but you would have to pay for it.

Parking's a nightmare at Devil's Dyke, although there's some lovely roads in the area.

Or you could get your car cleaned at the top of the ASDA car park for £12 or so and get free parking wink
