AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaagh..!!! Stepper Motor..
Discussion

I just went to clean the stepper motor on my Chim..and the bugger came away from its thead...

The thread stayed inside the hole...and the stepper motor came away in my hand. The little threaded piece and the spring inside came free.So the threaded part is now away from the main part.
After much fiddling I have the whole thing out now...IT WASN'T EVEN THAT DIRTY FFS :WEEPING:
Any advice on a good source for a new one ????
I refitted it as it is and it idles like a mental...any good ideas for a patch up until the new part arrives ??
Will it damage the car running it like this ??
Have I damaged the stepper more than just the obvious threaded piece - which looks glueable ??
Bugger..

I have just found a link about stepper motors on ebay
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
The seller has several listed:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
Hope this helps!

I did the classic snapping exercise putting mine back on - my wife reckons she's never seen me looking so depressed, even when my bike was written off 25 years ago.
Dream Machines told me to tape over the hole to seal it and it would be OK. I drove it to them the 'quiet' way but it behaved perfectly.
I guess you wouldn't want to drive it all week but it seems OK just to get you to the garage.
If you've got the thread out it's a simple job to put back in but I'm not allowed to do it again.

If you can find a bung that's fits nice and snug into the breather hose then drill out the bung with a 3mm hole.
This lets just enough air in for cold starts (you might find you may need a tiny amount of throttle on very cold days but not in my experience) while still maintains a perfect idle.

Ok..
I have now fitted the new stepper. Gently. I then carefully tightened it a bit.
There is definitely a hissing noise now when the engine is running. I daren't over tighten the thing though....The performance seems the same, I'm sure that the runble is a bit muted though.

Did you buy that one from ebay?I have now fitted the new stepper. Gently. I then carefully tightened it a bit.

What post on the Chim forum?
My stepper motor was faulty it was leaking air badly around the electric plug so i put the original one back in.
Contacted seller and he replaced it without a hitch.
Put replacement back in this morning and now ok.
Check if it leaks maybe a bad batch.
Regards
